Christmas is approachingA Story by Kathy Van KurinJust a drive home one night in December of 2017 and still had my fur buddy, Violet. This is about the tiny little blessings we miss if we blink and are not in the moment and aware.Christmas
is approaching. I feel
my soul gaze in wonder At one
more gift of simple extravagance. Winds carry a Douglas fir night’s fragrance. Paper white birch layers rustle against the
brush of the wind’s hand. All a lovely silhouette against black velvet night. Emerald and ruby lights shine from picket fence. My car is the magic carpet as festive Christmas lights reflect beauty. C.D. Player delivers Rousing Auto Harp music straight to this heart. Touring along, I enjoy slow tiny bites of Cranberry and white chocolate scone. Is it too much to ask, each gift’s entrance of trembling honor, one by one? No cars on the road within late evening stillness. Paper white birches silhouette against gauzy clouds of
heaven. Within this cold late hour Twinkling stars match my home’s hearth fire. I long to see them. Home at last I enter my own door's threshold. husband Tim is home and dinner waiting. Time for a walk, my chocolate spaniel Violet and I. Walking slowly midst stillness, and my soul
is full. Is it too much to ask? For I’ve lost count of every day now past. Each gift, each blessing, now forgotten. How
can this soul contain each new breath? © 2019 Kathy Van KurinAuthor's Note
