Bijou

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

Imagination pulling at inspiration

"

Jewel-Bijou (French)

A symphony  of  color to autumn

Harp Strains of winds, September has trailed away.

Minutes daily diminish- Sweet sunlight golden rays.

Precious longing pulls my soul for October’s lullaby.

Emerald Fir trees in full sway, Lift to pewter sky.

A stretching streamer necklace Festoons my maple tree.

In lilting triad note Garnet Lutes arrive.

Royal banners wave in Topaz. And Chartreuse

Earth’s heart beat rumbles

-To the Thrum of Kettle drums.

Trumpets from a distance announce royal colors.

Gold, Carnelian and Alabaster

Leaves tumble in profusion

Jasper, Opal, Citrine

Trees clap exaltation

Amethyst, Turquoise, Sapphire

Curtain falls

 in a gauze

of

diamond and peridot raindrops.

Standing ovation,

 a final, jewel finale

dearest Kathy... here we are... a year later...
richer for discovering that there is still wisdom and beauty in Nature.
Your poetry still lingers in my Soul... where seasons bring a change of Emotion.
We may have grown in knowledge and self-revelation... and yet Nature remains

One of my pet peeves with newer writers is using only primary colors to describe life. Your poem is the PINNACLE of all the poems I've ever read, as far as remedying this issue! You use colors I never even thought of! Also, overall, you don't use the typical autumn blather . . . everything is painted in unique phrases, unexpected words, etc. For me, autumn is all about the way the air feels (not much color in California). Our dry blasting heat of summer . . . then the air turns damp, bringing out all the aromas of the chaparrel . . . that's what signals autumn to me! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Every color and shade of your words is a radiant beauty. How I love autumn. The colored leaves are like the flowers of spring. Autumn brings me a sense of peace... of letting go... of shedding the summer.

I think if you live in the city it becomes a bit greyer, though in saying that, Mr robin has arrived for the winter, so that's nice. I like woodlands in the autumn, the way they turn slightly red before everything dies off. Nature seems to have everything sorted out, knows when to rest when to grow. We as humans should really take this on board. Hoping for some snow this year, my igloo last year was pretty pathetic.

Not sure if an early Robin means snow, but time will tell. You take care.

You too Paul. Here in the Pacific Northwest we get snow but not like the Midwest.Be well too.
A spectacular, warm explosion of color, Kathy, despite the coming season's gray. You lift the spirits with this poem-- your fonts, structure, word choices, etc. So much poetry about autumn (I'm guilty) speaks mostly to coming winter, the cold, dreary days ahead. You've captured the best of autumn in a wonderful poem. Great write, Kathy.

Such fine language, such fine meter.. you never fail to deliver a visual masterpiece in this or that way. Kathy.

You've set the scene that gives a glory of colours.. and Autumn's are the best. Can there be a more beautiful picture of death than the sight of Fall leaves drifting slowly or dancing cheekily in a gentle wind? Your words are truly beautiful.

A symphony, indeed! The splendor and wonder this exudes is amazing, Kathy. I anticipate Autumn like a child who longs for Christmas. I get excited for the change in the weather, and await the pageantry of colors to show themselves. It brings out memories of school, too...the smell of new clothes and just sharpened pencils. There's just nothing like it!
