Mercy Within-Without

Mercy Within-Without

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

Stir my heart Lord God, that no stagnancy has a place within.

"

Mercy Within-Without

It is a lifting of spirit, every bank of slightest breath leading into glowing amber twilight extended.

Come mercy’s winds. I feel your coolness rousing in every leaf and twig rustling their message.

It is Song birds round, calling and repeat, a response of silver voiced ring, meeting to begin again.

Mercy is in every revolution to completion: Twirling its life force, a gift given, seen, embraced.

It is lake’s glass surface twinkling with glory. Unmitigated patience inhales to exhale pulsing life.

Seconds glimmer into minutes, into hours. Waters of memories accumulate, swirling life’s well.

Come mercy’s winds. I feel your coolness rousing. Then the stillness of peace lies cozy all around.

A great rustling of leaves through cottonwood marsh brings humble tears of beauty to my vision.

The message reveals itself to my ears and mercy’s winds swirl in witness of grace against my soul.

Sunny winds touch and twirl, teasing every back lit leaf into undulating prisms of green glass glowing.

Our hearts beat. We cry and smile and toil in mercy.

Long golden fingers of late afternoon reach for evening.  An amber cast shade of night is lowered.

Slowly many pinpricks of woven stars glitter and shine through above ebony blanket, layer upon layer of heaven.

Pulsing lights come forth one by one as if a field of signal fires within a warrior host’s encampment.

Mercy rides the skies full of twinkling constellations;

And still these heavenly timeless and magical creatures and legends are revealed to my eyes as time flies by in mercy.

This is how spirituality feels to me. This is the ultimate in SHOW instead of tell . . . except this is more like FEEL instead of tell. While others may follow one religion or another, & some debate the existence of God, etc. . . . in the end, aren't we all going for this kind of magnificent uplifting, which you describe in such a visceral unforgettable way? This is the way we all wished we felt lots of the time. We never manage to feel this good at all times, of course, but just to have some portion of each day filled this way, with such loving splendor . . . I believe it could change the world (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
