Attract or Repel

Attract or Repel

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin

                         Attract or repel

I gazed into your face today; you are beautiful with eyes of brown, green, hazel or blue. Oh humanity, your complex layers pull me in every time!

What do we see in one another?  Are our lives a place of shared sanctuary?

Humanity’s robe, always different astounds me! You are wealthy beyond measure. Yes we have so much to share!

Your riches of words and its gift so free delight my listening ear. You have a “voice” with me.

Though poor your time is given extravagantly. Your mind, simply loves so freely. You may be homeless but have found a home in my heart.

The human soul does not discriminate but finds commonality if welcomed.

Oh that trust may be found. This too is a gift and a work in progress; the progress within daily life process.

These our bodies, our person houses are where we knock and call.  Do we need look too closely at outer appearance or do we gaze for reality within the mirror of our eyes.

Access is not always guaranteed. Free will is our protection until we can extend our hand and say, “come into my life. I have been waiting for you.”

The free gift of time is the door to softening and nurturing within our common bond of shared life.

Quite a wonderfully thought provking poem. Yes humanity walks on a thin line. Sometimes I feel it is alive and well and other times it seems to be on life support. But when we are more surprised by acts of kindness then we are acts of violence then humanity is in need of a death a rebirth.

A most delightful afternoon to thee, Lady Kathy : )
You've certainly addressed every aspect of that which your title reflects, and in result, something beautiful I feel flowing through me from your words is the marvelous wonderment that there is someone for everyone, because with such a variety of physical features, so many psychological, spiritual, and emotional characteristics that offer us such a wide selection of tastes in desire, want, need, and mutual attractions -- one person's disgust can be another's ultimate satisfaction.
Isn't life enthralling, Dear Lady Kathy? And, ohhh, I love how your poetry says it all with such lovely eloquence, knowing, wisdom, and verbal impact … You just keep getting better.

"The free gift of time is the door to softening and nurturing within our common bond of shared life 🌟 come into my life. I have been waiting for you.”

Goodness-ME, Kathy … what a stirring, thought-provoking poem, indeed! ⁓ Richard 🍃

An interesting poem! I like how you imagined the poem. I was able to see the difference between soul and body in the poem. Last line is important the free gift of time!! Nice ending and good start.

I was taken in immediately when you used every possible eye color in the first line. This is a creative way to celebrate diversity & encourage humanity in the way we interact with others. The title is interesting becuz it seems to be a bit of a paradox to your main meaning. To try to put it together, I would guess that you're suggesting we treat people gently, despite being attracted or repelled, as we all have our rough spots! A very original way to deliver an inspirational message much needed in our current times (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
