Sky Horses

Sky Horses

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

This was the first real poem I composed and at the time just tickled with. It has been formatted a little differently from its original version. Got the idea from my daughter's welded horses.

"

Sky horses

Like a herd of wild horses released to the heavens,

each one running wild and free.

This heavenly Habitation of marble candy sky

is really dreams swirled blue and cream

Hope is the glowing ember radiating and imparting

 its strength

where only a waste place may have existed.

And in this place of thoughts, ideas, grief and pain

hope’s quiet voice begins singing its precious refrain

.Every good gift in every precious soul

is set in diamond facet array.

White, perfect, just and pure

 is this stone cast

from our Creator’s great just hand;.

For even pain lends itself within the song given.

Holy Lord, please hold my hand
when the colors run down
and no longer are what they should be.

Catch sky horses in twinkling stars of the night
as my falling tears that hold your sweet light.

Make a way in the blackness when my feet lose their way
 and stumble on shattered dreams;
the desires and hopes that have died.

Help me learn to stand quiet
even in pain awaiting sky horses.

They will return on the next silver ridge.
For God is the giver of hope denied

that will come riding the next rainbow
 into Marble Candy Sky.

Oh, the care that this was written with was truly touching. Many pieces are written to show off, this one felt like a gift you were giving away. I was particularly thrilled with the idea of tears being a prism for "sweet light"- the idea that the products of our greatest emotions serve some beautiful purpose in the tangible world... in a semi-synesthetic sense, that line tasted like peaches. Thank you for submitting this to the " The Piece You're Proudest Of" Contest!

I can not articulate what I felt as I read this. Your words are vivid and infused with deep emotion. It is a beauty from pain write and on such a high level. Some writing I skim. Other writing I dive into. This was a full immersion - exquisitely penned.

Such an awesome heartfelt tribute to all the hearts that must be aching lately with so many tragedies tearing apart lives. Sometimes I'm overdosed on so much tragedy but your words bring out the beauty of the human condition when combined with the essential ingredients of faith & hope (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I wasn't going to cry today... was determined to keep the tissues out of sight. Too late.. and yet, am grateful for the release.

Your words took me somewhere away from this chair, this silent space. One needs more, needs sight to feel as well as see.. one needs to feel toe to heel and all around.. and that is how i feel your beautiful and finely laid words.

A Marble Candy Sky must be magnificent... will make sure i get a glimpse of it - just now and again. Too much and i'd be spoiled in not seeing the simple movement of a snail or the glimmer of raimbows springing from prisms! Thank you.

"my falling tears that hold your sweet light" - as water reflects light and image, your words reflect beauty, feeling and meaning. This is Beautiful Kathy Van Kurin. These horses in your poem were more beautiful than unicorns and Pegasus' Tyfs!!!
