People in all walks of life suffer and need help one way or another. Some with comfort, some with material assistance and others with guidance. The legitimate homeless or refugees are victims of many reasons. We need to be compassionate even if they are less fortunate or down on their chances. A very complex subject and heart-wrenching...:)................
An excellent take on this subject.

My-our contacts with this body of humanity is touchy at times with no easy answers when it comes to true freindships with them. I do no always want to try but they are part of us. Bless you. I liked your sharing here for it helps to give me perspective. Gods rich blessings to you this year....................Kathy
Our "Person houses" can become quite isolating; easy falling prey to "social agoraphobia."
Christ showed us the way; we must love our neighbors as ourselves. It's not the least bit complicated.
Let us, then--with joyful hearts--be about The Father's business.
An eloquent and elegant reminder, Kathy!

Good rounded opinion of my write; thanks. I am tickled by how we all see different angles from the same writing at any one time. "Be about the Father's business." Yes! Thanks for your thoughtful review and helpful words.................Blessings to you! Kathy
It is all too easy to judge, or think the worst... "drug addict; shiftless; lazy" but we don't know the life history of someone on the street. Some just have wretched luck, and it could happen to any one of us. We should spare a thought, and give a helping hand. Governments should do MUCH more! A thought-provoking write!

Yes the cross section of people anywhere is complex. What if a homeless person is any of the types; drug addict, shiftless, lazy or etc.Are they still human? This subject sometimes drives me nuts cause any one can fall. Anyone can make a wrong choice with tragic result. I guess that simply seeing a person and being willing to talk with them and seeing their story is a step in the right direction.

I love this! I find myself drawn to the homeless in my area. I am always stopping to talk, offer a hug, or something they need! Many don't understand my heart about them. I see people just like me. This poem touched my heart because it shows the unity of people, the humanity. Too many want to judge and point fingers and blame, when if we all could just see a common ground maybe we could learn to respect and love each other right where we are at.
A delicate subject well addressed! Well done!

It's too bad more people don't realise that we all 'dwell among us'. A writer questions what he sees. What story lies behind that sad countenance? How did they get here? What goes on in their mind? How is it I know so few of these people? A good write, Kathy.

I appreciate your intelligent response so much. There is so much to learn and we can all learn from one another. We all dwell among us. It is good to be reminded to not forget something right before our eyes; humanity in all of its many hued songs. I like your list too. I read it like three times. You are such a big help. " A writer question what he see...........................That is so good! Thank you for reading and really responding with great thoughtfulness. Bless you sir! Kathy
Very heart felt piece. When I pass them on the street, I always feel sadness, and wonder what happened to them. I used to see this lady maybe in her 70's living in the park close to me, it made me think of my grandmother and how loved and taken care of she was. Some things are unacceptable in this day an age! Great poem in every way

It encourages my confidence so. I loved hearing about your grandmother. We are so blessed to be able to understand the connection between ourselves and family and others. I hope the dear women you have seen living in the park will be all right. Don't forget about her. 'Bless you so very much as you keep being the blessing you are..................Kathy
Kathy, this is wonderfully articulated, seeing ourselves in others is how we will survive as humans, I only hope more people can see such, this is beautiful :)

It is good to recognise these less fortunate people amongst us.
They are victims of circumstances and we need to understand them.

It is great that you have taken the time to acknowledge the 'invisible' ones amongst us. I think it is good that you have not been too specific and we can recognise our own less fortunate neighbours.
It is good to see poetry having a social voice.
Well done,
