Autumn Court

Autumn Court

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin

Heavy mist presence, extend your scepter:
Horn of power-Autumn!
I see you holding court; calling attention your realm.
Flashing banners wave! Gilded leaf confetti lists through the air.
Blood fire pulled from very earth, strength of our days!
Simply command us.We are your loyal subjects.
Brilliance majestic entrances our eyes. We bow.
Your fire burns within us. Oh we need your brilliance!
Warrior strength-pure, coalesce within us.
To live in courage, fear conquered? Oh opportunity!
Slowly she enters in procession wearing deep multi-colored robes.
Every minute passing, splendor emits beauty's fragrance.
Purest amber, royal purple, orange passion: Oh Majesty!
She has visited us but even now  she is fading.
"Too soon, the time; must you leave us?
Fading, fading......one last dance.
She welcomes the prince of winter into her arms
 together they continue in dance.
Rush of tempest, the royal ones rise, twirling the whirlwind
We gaze after them in joy.
For the life we possess exists within dormancy's rest.
Short our lives so precious.
Within season's truth.

You've expressed the passing of seasons in such a way! I feel the coolness of oncoming winters bitter cold, leaves falling and blown away. I love this time of year, and you have brought it out in words. I am now in the fall of life, looking back at summer and spring, wondering where they've gone.
A wonderful, melancholic write. Thank you so much.

The change of seasons is seasoned with meanings, extended with glory and fraught with wonders. Happy is the soul that connects and liverth to see another reason. Change is the only constant and reminder of maturing. ....

Happy Thanksgiving to you. You are welcome. ....:::))))
this is a fun and colorful write Kathy, just like Autumn... Autumn into Winter, and paving the way for Spring to unfold new life and freshness.... without the fall, the would be no rise... anyway.. touching poem and one I enjoyed reading and thinking about...

I like that your poem of autumn is quite different than most . . . you've personified many of the aspects of autumn as if it's a royal affair, so much majesty, so much power over us . . . these ideas feel foreign to me, when it comes to describing things in nature, a natural season. I do see all the nature shining thru your message with good imagery, it just seems unusual to me, using the royal treatment here. That's a good thing, becuz I love it when a writer takes an original approach.

'Blood fire pulled from very earth, strength of our days!'

Beautiful writing, filled to the brim with admiration for not only the third season but its likeness to life before death. There are strong spiritual touches, 'praise be for what is given, each in its own time'. Life has its distinct shades and meanings just as Nature does when itdisplays moments of absolute glory. .

I try! Have a sweet and happy Tuesday.
my dad is in his late autumn, just visited him yesterday at the memory care unit of assisted living...we had lunch together...he was having a good day, and it was a good visit...he is 97--

autumn is when the trees are most beautiful....the leaves shine with color...as most get noticed late in life..for some reason..

beautiful poem..probably would leave out the author's note...but i am always for letting the poems speak for themselves allowing the readers more freedom to interpret...
oh, one thing--i think you meant, "too short---too short"

really a beautiful piece of writing.

One last dance is such a beautiful thought Kathy, yet it is not the end, just a continuation of natures cycle. Beautifully captured.
