Twilight Symmetry

Twilight Symmetry

A Story by Kathy Van Kurin
"

Descending winter darkness appreciated and welcomed by myself it's human companion.

"
Descending darkness signals last rays of sunlight-
bringing copper gold treetops to an intense glow.

Whirling bursts of air set  pond's surface
 in a rippling textured response
 as if to say,
"Enter the night."

Each silhouette branch
 becomes a winsome
velvet array against fading dusk sky.

The pond becomes alive
in a cacophony of nature's music.

Winds arise in a slow roar
as night birds give their final call.

Spare lines of curling leaf ribbons
snap in the dry cold sharpness.

Joining gusts come in waves as if
calling to each other. "We are Winter!"

Living as I do in a place where winters are mild, twilight is indeed an active, noisy, raucous time and you've painted it with a ton of magic using sparkling details. It's hard to fathom how some can sit inside & watch TV, a typical pastime for this time of day! I propose that we would have less division & fomenting if people would watch the show you describe rather than network news *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

This poem should speak to anyone who has never experienced the change of season from summer to winter. The cool crispness of Fall has always been a favourite time. Your poem exemplifies the season perfectly. Good write.

What a beautiful poem, each couplet or so paints a picture. At the second read, i closed my eyes and tried to share what you'd seen, were seeing. Sighing now, sliding into a third view of your Twilight Symmetry.

Now I wonder: so many people dislike, hate, are saddened when the season changes one to another, often forgetting the magic of each ... and yet.. yet.. every night we accept time of day, resting or awaking with joy and hope and thanks.. No symmetry there - strange.

Thank you so much for sharing such gentle but vibrant views of your feelings and world.

You nailed this piece Kathy, by painting a perfect Autumnal picture in my mind. You know a poem is good when you want to visit the picture it painted.Beautifully captured.

You're very welcome.
I don't usually review poetry as I am not the poetic type, but I enjoyed this one. It made me think about a passage in 'Jane Eyre,' where she stops at a stile in the winter at the end of a day and enjoys the whispering of the wind.

This is a nice depiction of end of day. I feel you could make it even more vibrant by 'showing us' how the ponds become alive ... the beetles chorus sends ripples across the pond (something like that) fo tell us what is happening, show us by using all the five senses ....

just a thought X
