Tips to Find Inspiration

Tips to Find Inspiration

A Story by katefunk

Have you ever had one of those days when you are as creative as a Michael Bay film? I.e. plenty of sparkle but nothing new or interesting? Well, it could be because your creativity has gone on holiday for a while. It will probably come back after a while, but if you want to get those creative juices flowing right now, then here are a few tips to help you.

Do a little free-thinking and idea shooting

Sit somewhere quiet and maybe somewhere dark and try to let your mind wander. Forget about focusing on your problem. Pretend your problem is a hill in the distance and you have gotten out of your car to walk to it. Let your mind wander and you may come up with an idea.

Be inspired by the sound of music

There are people in the past that have said they were inspired by the music of a bird, and others that have been inspired by music to do certain acts or come up with certain ideas. The Disney movie Fantasia was created entirely with music. They came up with the soundtrack first and designed the visuals around what they thought fitted the music.

Put yourself in the mind of a dog

You may be sitting there right now with no idea what to do. You may be stuck for inspiration and tired. If you are really stuck, then you need to start thinking in a different way. You are stuck in a kind of repetitive loop where you are not coming up with anything new. Try thinking in a different way, and you can start by putting yourself in a dog’s shoes (metaphorically). What would a dog do? What would your nanny do? What would Jesus do and what would Muhammad do in this situation?

Looking at art may help

There are enough people that say art is inspirational to consider it a source of inspiration. There are websites on the Internet that allow you to look at art for free. You should try it a few times to see if you become inspired. Even if you do not become inspired it still has to be better than sitting there in an uninspired trance.

Be more creative as you go through your day

You may find inspiration in more things that you see and do, but only if you become a more creative person in your every-day life. You may become more creative by simply living your life in a more creative fashion. To start with you can be more creative by finding creative ways of adding more fun into your life. Sing opera in the bathroom, hide catnip around your neighbor’s house and let in the local strays, send condolence cards to people on their anniversaries.

You can try going on Google

If you have to write an essay or an article, then go to Google and see what other people have written on the topic. You can pull a few ideas from other people. It is not plagiarism if you only lift an idea or two. In fact, a famous writer said that stealing from one person is plagiarism, and stealing from many is research.

Try picking random words

Put your finger in random places in a newspaper and see what words your finger covers. They may inspire you with an idea and you can challenge yourself to come up with ideas based on the text under your finger.

Get some sleep you carrot

You are no longer being creative because you are tired. You may not feel tired and you may not even be able to get to sleep, but that is the reason you are tired. You need to go to bed a lay there if you have to. Pull the covers over your head and go to sleep. Around an hour after you wake up you will feel your creativity return. Do not opt for drinking coffee or any form of caffeine because it will not help.

Try sensory depravation

You may be suffering with inspiration because you are restless or because you are having trouble focusing on the task at hand. You can cure this by removing as much stimulus as possible. The first thing to remove it any indication of time or time passing. Hearing is another big one to get rid of. Sit or lay somewhere comfortable and turn out the lights or blindfold yourself. You leave yourself in a state where you can concentrate on a single task without distraction and you may find inspiration strike.

Ask your friends for help and advice

Just talking to someone else may help you get out of your uncreative rut. They may come up with some good ideas to get you started, or at the very least will come up with ideas that are so bad that you do not feel so rotten about your creative stand still. Something they say or do may act as your inspiration.
