Weather the Storm

Weather the Storm

A Poem by Katrina Mckeown

As the storm
rolls over tormenting
the earth below
Clouds discharge
their contents

Thunder follows
lightning strikes,
as the climate spikes

Scolding winds rage
ravaging and reckless
cascading torrents
of icy stones

Mother nature’s
view is blurry
while all the little
wildlife scurry
into the depths
neath the oak

Exasperation
and desperation follow
as my clothes cling
to my bones
this winter has
turned on me

I’m lost inside
the chaos adrift
and spinning

Steadfast towards home
now I’m winning
and at last
I’ve stopped spinning.

It really has been a very chaotic winter for some areas. My sister had upwards of 11 feet of snow in her yard and continues to get pummelted with high winds, more snow, then beautiful days and then it starts all over ... my winter luckily has been milder than usual with much much less snow than usual as well. Sorry for rambling on - I enjoyed your poem :)

It is natural as you wonderfully state that storms occur in our lives and in nature. The question is:" How do we weather them?" How do we react to them is a key to our survival and well being. Some people have medical conditions that can be exacerbated by them. I hope they can cope.

There are periods in our lives when we all have to learn to weather a storm, and that's not easy to do. Your lines are filled with troubled imagery. Let's hope our inner storms are short ones.

I’m not a lover of winter. Honestly I greatly loath/detest it. Too cold and barren for my liking
i see this as the storms inside of us that we have to weather....and then rebuild our hearts and move on...
damage will be done, but the tornado of pain eventually stops spinning...and we regain the balance within ourselves.
