My other half

My other half

A Poem by Kat Bishop

it's back
the blissful ache in the stomach of one
who falls too fast
the racing heart
racing towards you
or away?
I know the signs
the playful banter
the sheepish smiles
the ultimate high
that precedes the dreaded low
when a once full heartbeat
becomes an echo
when there's that ache again
but it's not so blissful
just a reminder of the space you left behind

but alas, were not there yet
we're far behind
where the heartache is a maybe
where we tread with caution
because our last love left us lonely
and our hearts have just mended
but I read the love on pages
and I think of you when that love song plays
and you make me join words like a love struck poet
and when a movie ends with happy ever after
I want to give our happy ever after a chance

then I remember I fall too fast
and this flame inside could leave me burnt
and we're miles apart
this could never work
and we're young with so much to learn
but at night when the moon is out
and the stars shine bright
I hear your laughter
and I know beyond a doubt
I want to be yours.

It is difficult to love and trust again after suffering the pain of heartbreak. We are hesitant to fall again and this thoughtful piece speaks of just that. Thank you for sharing your art with us.
