Rotting

Rotting

A Poem by Kaseda

August 29, 1999

I would probably describe that
As the worst day of my life

And even though each year
Tries to hide that fact
By showering me with
Presents and sweets

It really just chronically corrodes instead.

Let's talk about birthday cards
They have something funny written in them
And then you write something in there
That doesn't really matter

You write the obligatory, "Happy Birthday."
You might write, "I can't believe how old you are now!"
There might even be a, "It seemed like only yesterday..."
But in the end, we all know that none of this matters

None if it has any personality to it
Try to put anything else and chances are
Somebody will get mad at you
What's the point anyways?

To some of us, the day we were born
Is really the worst day of our lives
And every single day we relish that facts
But can't do anything about it

But other people just naturally celebrate it
Like it's always something to be proud of
And the celebrations just make it worse
They just rot us even more.
