Chapter 4

Jenny and Jeremy were sitting in their room watching the news in amazement. Well, Jenny was amazed. Jeremy is Jenny’s son. He just sits there as he usually does in his wheelchair. She didn’t know whether or not Jeremy really had a reaction. He has some sort of debilitation disease and no one knows what it is or what has caused it. They have been to several doctors for some answers and every doctor had a different answer for it. There was nothing they could do to cure him so far.

Jenny talks to Jeremy as if he can hear her and understand her. Her friends think she is nuts because he is not responsive.

“Jeremy, look at that! I think we will be going out today. Wow! We haven’t had an excuse to out since our last doctor’s visit.”

She combs his hair and brushes his teeth, Dresses him in his nice clothes and makes sure he is presentable. Then she fixes a bag with extra clothes and some food for Jeremy. He has to eat baby food because he cannot really move even to eat.

She then makes sure she is dressed and ready to go. She doesn’t do much for herself she just combs her hair back and ties it. She doesn’t expect this to take too long.

Jenny really is looking forward to the trip out of the house. They don’t go out much. She never leaves Jeremy with someone else to care for him. Jeremy consumes her whole life.

Her husband, Bob, had left a long time ago. When Jeremy was born, Bob was such a proud father. He had this beautiful son, a boy that he can teach sports to and play with and bond with.

Jeremy had a pretty normal life. He was a normal kid. He went to school and played little league. His mother and father were with him every step of the way. One day something happened. His body movements started to stiffen up. He progressively got slower and slower and things stopped working like his legs and his arms, then his hands and fingers and slowly his speech stopped and his ability to eat went away.

One of the last things he said to his parents was.

“I wish I could move again, but don’t worry about me so much I will be okay someday.”

After he lost his speech and was totally dependent on his parents for everything, His mother took all her time just to take care of him. Eventually his father left. There was nothing there for him except disappointment that his son was not able to get better. He couldn’t handle seeing his only son as a vegetable. So his father left them. He still took care of them from far away but he divorced Jenny and got a family that wasn’t broken.

Jenny didn’t hate Bob for leaving she knew it was such a big strain. She was stronger than he was she was determined never to give up.

The time came where everyone was dressed and ready to go. Jenny wheeled Jeremy to the Van and rolled him onto the lift. It pulled him up into the van. Jenny climbed in and fastened him in as she had done many times before.

The school wasn’t too far from their home. It was a good thing as it really did take a lot out of Jeremy to travel too long of a time. Jenny worried about him constantly. She would die so that he could live.
