Chapter 2

Billy was an older man, or should I say a real old man who lived in a home for the elderly. He was alone, never married and he had outlived all of his relatives.

There was this nice nurse’s aide that came to visit with him when she was on her break and sometimes on her days off. She really likes him. She has a lot of relatives but there was something special about Billy he was like family to her. He was kind and his eyes sparkled when he talked to her. She would bring him special snacks. She knew he wasn’t supposed to have them. She never let him eat much she didn’t want him to get sick.

Her name is Marilyn, she is a short girl but very strong in body and mind. She has very green eyes and very dark black hair that is always pinned up in a tight bun. She only wears it down when she visits Billy.

When Marilyn visits Billy she wants to hear the many stories he has to tell. He could tell some life stories that keep her amazed and sometimes amused. Billy used to work for the government. He had some real wild stories to tell. There was one about him and some of the co-workers getting in trouble for going down the underground tunnel of the White House and sneaking the pizza delivery kid so they could eat four pizzas. It wasn’t that bad but they didn’t have to sneak him in that way. They could have had it delivered the usual way. The poor kid though he was part of some sort of spy game. Billy made it sound so funny.

This particular day Billy was serious, so serious that it kind of spooked Marilyn. He had something to tell her that he thought that she could keep as a secret and that he could pass down to someone. He didn’t want it to get lost in time as things often do.

Billy started off with his usual statement.

“I was a young man at the time. In fact, I just started working for the government. There was a real commotion going on in the US and on the Canadian border. There was an Earthquake of sorts. But that is the story that the people got. I know what really happened.

We thought a meteor had crashed down to the earth. The Astrologers saw that it was a kind of strange one. It was burning, there is no question about that but it didn’t burn down. It just got real hot and glowed like an ember. It crashed and left a pretty good-sized crater.

It also caused an earthquake from the impact. What everyone was told was just that.

Marilyn is amused at what she hears so far.

“That is pretty interesting. Then what happened?”

She doesn’t realize the impact of what he is going to say so she is sitting contently listening as the story goes on.

“We went to discover something that had fallen out of the sky. We were not sure if it was a plane or a helicopter but what we were worried about, was that it was an Atom Bomb that had launched and somehow did not detonate.”

Marilyn was really interested now. It was getting juicy. Billy’s voice began to crack and was shaky.

“When we arrived there, we were pretty sure what it was but something happened that we did not understand. Out of the crater on the very bottom of it, we could see an object that was very large in size. It was about the size of two football stadiums. This object was inside the crater.”

Billy now starts to shake uncontrollably as if he were there this very moment. Marilyn could see his dazed state. She was going to call one of the nurses at that moment. She though he was going to go into a seizure or something. He started to talk again.

“Then a door opened. We saw people coming out of it, lots of people. They looked just like… like you or me. We were all stunned. We rushed down there to help them out. They were bringing out wounded people. Some they brought out were dead. Obviously some were burned. You could see the ones alive, mourning over their loved ones. When we got to where the door was we stopped. We saw some markings on their arms and on the back of their necks. They were not from here. I mean we thought they were not from here. We called the President on this matter. He flew in from Asia where he was meeting at the time. His staff came with him to counsel him on any decisions that needed to be made.”

Billy closed his eyes. His mouth sounded dry and he licked his lips his face was pale.

“Some conversations went on and then some time passed. Then we were instructed to make sure that all of these people were to be cared for and then sent to different destinations in our country….   These people had distinctive markings on their arms and some on their backs and neck. They had a way of covering them up or hiding the markings. They were instructed to hide them permanently. They now live with us and we don’t know who they are. They are part of our society. They could be your neighbors, and friends, you could be one of them.”

Marilyn was astonished at this statement. She tried to hide that she was so surprised. She left a little while later and went over to her friend Frank’s house. She had to tell someone about what she had heard. She was supposed to keep it a secret. It wasn’t really real anyway it was just the ramblings of an old man with a great imagination. She was really itching to tell someone. She knew that Billy would be upset if he knew that she had confided in someone else but she couldn’t believe it was a true story. So she talked to frank about it.

Billy had a rough night that night and died the next morning right after breakfast. She wasn’t the one who found him but as soon as the nurse for the morning shift found him they called Marilyn because they knew he was like family to her.

Marilyn was sad she had to take the day off work she couldn’t perform her daily work schedule as she was so mournful. She just got too close to him. He was just like one of the family.

Billy really didn’t have much of a family life. She kind of has the same relationship with Frank as well. He doesn’t have a good family life either. She is very close to Frank as well. They both have a common bond in her life except that Billy was a kind and generous person and Frank was more into bullying people.

Since Billy’s family were all deceased and he didn’t have anyone to take care of his funeral arrangements, she picked his coffin and suit that he was laid to rest in and had a very small service. The people from the home came to the funeral and that was all. It was very simple, very sweet, and very short.

She wept for him….

“So the government had been hiding a secret race have they? I am sure the underground society will be real interested in this.”

Frank’s eyes were bloodshot and glazed over with a look of hatred. He wanted so much to see blood and gore happen on the streets. He buddies were also feeling that this should go somewhere interesting.

Frank was the last person who should have known about this. He was secretly an underground, antigovernment, right-winged activist. This was the perfect thing for him to know. He would use this information to start a nationwide panic.

Frank calls his buddy Sal,

“Hey, Sal, I got this news from girl I know. She works in a nursing home. She had this old geezer friend who used to work for the government. Yeah! Yeah!”

He blurted out.

“A government secret… I think we should check this out and if it is for real I think we should start a large gathering don’t you think?

Sal’s voice through the phone,
“Yeah Frank, that sounds like a real good idea. I have great crowd pleasers. It makes a real big bang, and I am sure there will be some great chaos from it.

Shortly after that conversation, the investigation began. It didn’t take long for the documents to appear. Then the alerts went out for the scanning to begin. No one really knew what was happening or why they had to go through this.

Frank is a medium build man in good shape. He has very short blonde hair, brown eyes and a very short temper.

Frank was an unusual sort. He liked panic and fear and stuff that caused people to have anxiety. It makes him feel strong and in control. Marilyn found something good in him though she was the only one who saw it.

He told her what he was up to with the same demonic tone that he was using when he talked to his friend Sal.

Marilyn was upset.

“I cannot believe that you have started all of this and besides I thought you were the one person I could trust. Apparently not! There seems to be a lot about you I don’t know!”

Frank didn't care that he upset her only that he was in charge.

Marilyn was upset that he had started all of this scanning stuff and even more so that he broke a confidence with her. She was grateful that there wasn’t a panic and that things did not get out of control, so far…She thought maybe this was for the best but she still would not forgive Frank for his deceit.

Now everyone had to be scanned. They would separate them from us and that would be that.
