![]() Chapter 7A Chapter by Karina BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! I groaned as I heard my alarm go off in the morning. It was 8 o'clock; I had a half an hour before we had to leave. I quickly took a shower, with one of those gigantic plastic bags over the cast the ER gave me, and threw my hair back into a fail of a ponytail. We drove to the place they directed us to called something like Hand Therapy or whatever. I was too tired to be aware of my surroundings. I was with my dad again, and I had to wait literally two and a half hours before going in. What is with these places and WAITING? It was 11:30 when they finally called me in. They guided me to a small room with an desk and three chairs, and the man that led us here started asking me questions. "What happened exactly? Is it your thumb, or your pinkie.. Or another finger? Does it hurt? Could you take off that cast for me?" And other questions along the lines of that. I answered, and he looked at the x-rays on a gigantic screen. "I think right here there is a crack all along the growth plates of your arm.. It is hard to tell since it is right next to the growth plates, but I can still see it. Right here.." he guided his finger along the bottom of my thumb all the way down to my wrist. Yikes. "You will probably be out for 3-4 weeks," he said. UGH. "But, I'm not sure, so will you be able to come back around 4:15 this afternoon?" he said. "That's perfect, right about when school gets out," my dad said. "Oh, that's right, you still have school. Well, summer's almost here," he said as he laughed and looked at my uniform. Oh, summer. I wish you were here now more than ever. We checked out of the therapy center and drove to school. My dad dropped me off, wishing me good luck. I walked up the stairs to the front entrance and rang the bell. The clicking sound of the door unlocking signaled me that I could open it and enter, as I did. I checked in with the office and put my things away. I checked my schedule and saw that my class was in music, which was held in the basement. I walked down he stairs and made my grand entrance into the room. All eyes turned on me. At first I saw everyone sitting there, not looking me in the eye, but looking down at my arm. Then I saw Alexandra sitting with her leg propped up; also in a cast. "What happened?" I asked Alexandra, as the class said the exact same thing to me. "Well I broke my thumb playing softball," I said as I sat down next to Alexandra. "Well that must've hurt!" said the music teacher. No s**t. I thought. I was in a crappy mood. "I hope you feel better!" "How long will it take to heal?" "Are you out of gym class? Lucky!" "How did you break it playing softball?" "Where were you?" Thanks.. Awhile.. Yeah.. Somehow.. Oh you know just sky diving before school. Not at the doctors or anything. "I know how it feels," Alexandra said with a smile, as though reading my thoughts. "I hit myself with a golf club, then hit it again on the pole holding up my bed, whatever that's called." "Ouch!" I said. "Well at least I won't be alone on the bench for gym." Alexandra laughed, then focused back on music.
