TheWhen deciding on the route of plastic surgery, whether it is for routine upkeep of unsightly wrinkles or reconstructive surgery from an event in your life, there are so many things to think about. The task of deciding on a procedure, choosing a surgeon, knowing what to expect, and recovery can very daunting. There is a plethora of information on the internet, but it can be a daunting task to sift through and find the information that you need. Here are five useful and valuable tips when it comes to plastic surgery.
Understand the Risks
With any cosmetic surgery, regardless of how non-invasive it might be, there are going to be risks associated with it. It is important when choosing a procedure to be informed of all of the possible side effects and risks, no matter how small they may be. During your consultation with the surgeon, they should go over all risks that are associated with the procedure you have chosen. Never trust a doctor who claims there are no risks or skirts the conversation.
Research Your Possible Choice of Surgeon
You would examine a car make and model before you purchased it, your body and the person who will be performing a surgery should be even more important to know the ins and outs of. It is important to find out if they are certified by The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and what hospitals they have privileges. Hospital and the board do many important background checks and certifications that are necessary for a trustworthy surgeon. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Don’t Get Entranced With Before and After Pictures
It can be mesmerizing looking through all of the radiant before and after pictures in the doctor's office, but don’t forget, not everyone will look the same after surgery. Attempt to pick out pictures of people who look similar to you or have a close likeness to your body type. If the surgeon doesn’t have any pictures that you can personally relate to, make sure to let the doctor know of this concern and do further research.
Go Into Surgery as Healthy as Possible
This tip is not just referring to your body but to your mind as well. Recovery from surgery can often take a toll on a person as a whole. By making sure you are feeding your mind and body what it needs to be healthy, your recovery will go smoother. Always make sure to follow directives from your surgeon on nutritional preparedness for the procedure and let them know if you have any emotional issues on your mind.
Be Realistic
When coming out of surgery, you often expect to take off the bandages and immediately look like you had imagined in your head. Remember, recovery takes time, and you will look worse before you see results. Surgery can sometimes be very rough on the body and can lead to swelling, bloating, and bruising. Be realistic in your immediate expectation when you are coming out of surgery and for weeks, sometimes months, afterward.
