Dr Mishra's grand dance with the Crème de la crème of Kenya's political celebritiesA Story by EVANS KANINIHeart-rending melodies boomed from top singers such as Cliff Richard, John Lennon, Ray Dorset, Rod Stewart, Lionel Richie, Demis Roussous, Smokey Robinson, Dolly Parton, Karen Carpenter and Bony MOn October 16, 2011, Prominent
gynecologist and obstetrician Dr Swarup Ranjan Mishra, led a pack of
exhilarated ministers, an assistant minister, businessmen, senior
government officials, chief executive officers and other dignitaries, in
a grand dance during the historic and colorful inauguration of his new
Medi-Heal hospital, located in the outskirts of Nakuru town, Rift Valley Kenya. It was a moving occasion during the official opening of the hospital equipped with state-of-the art facilities, as Dr Mishra- who was in his happiest moods, led former Health minister prof Anyang Nyongo, ex-Roads minister Frankline Bett, former assistant Roads minister Lee Kinyanjui and other top Kenyan leaders in a memorable jig, before an ecstatic huge crowd- the biggest ever witnessed in Nakuru town in recent times. Members of the Hindu community were also in attendance during the auspicious inauguration as were people of all walks of life. Then the rain came suddenly, poured out forcefully and briefly and then surprisingly petered out into a drizzle, warm and soft and quite welcoming. A benevolent sun shone overhead, its rays soothing the nerves and the muscles splendidly, relaxing them into semi-siesta. A sharp, brilliant rainbow arched against the backdrop of the bright evening. However, not even an iota of the dramatic climate change deterred the inauguration of the Medi-Heal hospital in Nakuru town. The inauguration took place close to the town's section 58 region, off the Nairobi/Nakuru highway. A Nakuru band belted out heart-rending melodies from top singers such as Cliff Richard, John Lennon, Ray Dorset, Kenny Rogers, Demis Roussous, Smokey Robinson, Dolly Parton, Jimi Hendrix and Africa's music big man Franco alias Luambo Luanzi Makiadi. Dr
Mishra who has endeared himself to Kenyans of all tribes, prof Anyang
Nyongo, Frankiline Bett and Lee Kinyanjui shook themselves majestically,
dancing rhythmically and methodically to the beat of the music before
the jubilant and cheering crowd. What a ceremony to behold! The VIP's dance progressed for sometime then eventually wound up, paving way for public speeches. Earlier, the guests made an extensive tour of the hospital getting a feel of all the treatment units, as they noted with appreciation that the hospital would go a long way in responding adequately to the needs of the local populace, owing to its cheap and affordable rates. Dr Mishra who was widely cheered during his address, and who has embarked on a mission of opening a chain of Medi-Heal hospitals across the country for the benefit of Kenyans, stressed that though he was setting the pace, it was God who was supreme and the one who would perform "the healing wonders". He urged Nakuru residents and other outlying areas to take advantage of the hospital as it had been incepted to meet their medical needs. Prof Nyongo said the government fully appreciated Dr Mishra's noble initiatives and would supplement his efforts by providing the necessary assistance. Nyongo emphasized that the government was committed in meeting the country's medical needs and in creating a healthy nation that would in turn breed rapid development. Kinyanjui
echoed Bett's sentiments saying most local drivers should avoid
performing daredevil stunts on the roads to end the frequent rate of horrific accidents. He stated that Nakuru people were lucky to have the Medi-Heal hospital started by Dr Mishra to cater for their needs. The
event later climaxed into a colorful reception at the Rift Valley
Sports Club in the heart of Nakuru town where guests appeased their
appetite with drinks and food of all sorts, as Lionel Richie's hit songs
"Hello" and "All Night Long", as well as Boney M's iconic "Rasputin"
and "Ma Baker" boomed on fast. Day Mary Wambui toured Medi-Heal hospital in Eldoret............... On
February 17, 2007, influential Kenyan politician Mary Wambui, now
Member of Parliament for Othaya constituency, made an extensive tour
of the Eldoret-Medi Heal hospital. Now doubt, the flamboyant lady politician with powerful connections to the corridors of power in State House, was amazed and impressed by the splendid progress that had taken place at the health institution. She took the golden opportunity to laud the management of the Eldoret Medi-Heal hospital and fertility Center, for ensuring cost-effectiveness, which has enabled even the common and ordinary people in the North Rift region, to afford the hospital’s rates. She
noted with appreciation that the hospitals decision to ensure the
rates were affordable had enabled scores of the local people, and the souls of the earth, to seek
treatment there over a number of ailments. “This
hospital is cost effective which is a very wise and positive move by
the authorities”. The common men and women can afford and get access to
the high
standards of treatment here, and the ultra-modern medical facilities”,
Wambui said when she toured the hospitals spacious departments. She
was accompanied by a Nairobi businesswoman Nancy Weinstein. Dr Mishra who had invited her, took Wambui around the hospital. Also present was the hospitals matron Mary Mucerah. Staff of the health institution who included doctors, nurses and casuals and who numbered 120, were also present and gave Wambui a warm and enthusiastic reception. She was also given a bouquet of flowers. A jovial Wambui gave a cash donation to the hospital. She noted that the hospital’s management had worked diligently to expand and modernize the health institution and fit it with state-of the-art medical equipment. She also noted that the hospital was the leading one in Uasin Gishu district, and commended its staff and casuals for their dedication to duty. The politician emphasized that the sick need all the care, comfort and
attention in the world and it was therefore of paramount importance that
the hospitals staff worked towards the realization of these objectives. Wambui
was particularly moved when she visited the Neo Natal department which
caters for babies born sick and prematurely. She stressed that the area was one of the most sensitive departments and where utmost care should be effected. The country, she asserted, cannot afford to lose infants who had just been born, and who would be vital assets in future. Other
departments at the hospital which Wambui toured included the
laboratory, radiology, nursing, imaging, operation theatre, obsgynae and
cardiology units, renal, the
intensive care unit, the high dependency unit and the intra vitro
fertilization department which caters for couples who cannot have
children for one reason or another. Wambui noted that all the departments were air-conditioned and cleanliness had been carefully observed. In his remarks, Dr Mishra told the guests that the hospitals management would open another hospital of the same standard in Soy location to cater for the growing
population in Uasin Gishu district. © 2014 EVANS KANINI |
