Bad Grades

Bad Grades

A Story by Kate Rivet
"

She's the one who's always coming with clever pranks but what will her friends do when they find out she has bad grades?

"
I walked into the clubhouse greeted by six very unhappy teenagers. "What's up?" I asked.
"Not your grades," Jack said. I froze and looked at them who were all huddled around a laptop.
"Don't tell me," I said eyeing the laptop.
"Yes, we checked them," Kate said.
"There you go, good grades. You have them pulled up so you should know," I defended.
"STRAIGHT Fs ARE NOT GOOD!" Jack shouted. I could see his veins practically popping out of his forehead.
"Why do you even care?" I asked crossing my arms.
"Well..." Kate started clearly thrown off by the question.
        "Anyway, it's a working progress," I retorted.
"It better be," Jack shot back.
"I don't understand, you do good on your homework. The problem is your tests and quizzes," Kate observed reviewing the grade book.
        "Do you study?" Jack inquired.
"Nope, I just wing it," I said proudly.
"YOU WING IT?!" They all roared.
"Yeah, I don't have the time, energy, or effort to put into studying," I said shrugging.
"Well find the time, and get your grades up," Kate snarled.
"And just how well have you done by 'winging it'?" Jack asked in a stern voice.
"Well if you consider Fs good then winging it has worked just fine," I replied.
"Fs ARE NOT GOOD!" Jack and Kate shouted.
"Alright, we've established Fs are bad," I said irritated.
"You should've already known that," Jack said.
        "Well I didn't," I shot back.
"Colleges see these just so you know," Rachel jumped in.
"Yeah I know, there's four weeks left in this term so I have time," I replied.
"I just don't get it, your always coming up with these elaborate plans and the clever pranks," Jack pointed out.
"That's where all my time, effort, and smarticles go," I said shrugging.
"What the heck are 'smarticles'?" Jack asked.
        "My intelligence," I clarified.
"That isn't a word," Kate said.
"Whatever, anyway why do you four care?" I asked indicating Rachel, Nick, Dale, and Chad who had pretty much been silent up to this point.
"We weren't until we found out you were failing," Rachel responded and the guys shook their head in agreement.
"Now what is so interesting about that?" I asked crossing my arms.
"To be honest, we thought you'd be smarter," Nick said.
"I am, I just don't put any effort into my work," I explained.
        "Well you should," Kate said.
"Fine, I'll go to the library to study," I said heading towards the door.
        "Alright, good luck," Jack said.
"With what?" I asked half way out.
"Staying focused," Jack said with a chuckle.
"Haha very funny," I said unamused and then I headed to the library.
The next day, we had a big test in algebra so everyone was making sure I studied. We began the test and afterward the teacher was able to grade them in class. Five minutes before the bell, he handed them out so we could see our scores.
"Wow, I did better than what I though!" Kate said looking at her test.
"Same!" Rachel said showing Kate her score. They had both gotten a ninety percent.
"How'd you do?" Kate asked me.
"Okay," I muttered crumpling my test up into a little ball and tossing it at the trash can. The bell rang and I got up to leave before they could ask me any other questions. Once out the door, I pushed myself against the wall and peered back into the classroom. Rachel and Kate had a puzzled look on their faces as they made their way to the trash can. Once they pulled my test out, I snuck back in and got behind them.
"Got ya!" I shouted startling them both making them jump and scream. It turns I had gotten a hundred percent on my test.
"You little-" Kate cut herself off as she shook with anger.
"Uh oh," I said deciding that I should run if I want to live. I took off out the classroom door and down the hall. I was gaining some distance when I tripped over someone's foot and looked up to see it was Jack. He smiled at me just as he tripped Kate and she landed on top of me.
"What in the world is going on?" Jack asked as Rachel caught up to us.
"I'd love to stay and chat but I gotta head to class," I said pushing Kate off of me and taking off again.
Later that day at the clubhouse, I finally explained everything. "So it started off as a prank Headmaster was pulling on me. He wanted me to freak out when I saw the bad grades but it backfired on him when he accidentally got himself locked out of the system so he couldn't change my grades back. I decided to take advantage of it and get you guys."
"How can you be so evil?" Kate asked.
"So headmaster changed them to scare you?" Jack asked in disbelief.
"Yep, he's getting me back for releasing the bull," I answered.
"Oh yeah! We had to catch that darn thing again," Jack remembered.
"Anyway, he finally got them changed back. These are my actual grades," I said pulling them up on a laptop. Out of my seven classes I had five As and two Bs.
"So we worried about nothing," Kate concluded.
"Pretty much. I am concerned about the maturity age of Headmaster though," I said shrugging.
"We're concerned about your maturity age," Kate shot at me.
"He's just firing back because you fired the first shot!" Jack exclaimed.
"True, oh well it was fun while it lasted," I said.
"But you do study right?" Kate asked.
I rolled my eyes and said, "yes I studied. All As and Bs don't come easy ya know."
Kate was about to say something when Nick bust in and shouted, "guys! The Cresswell Campus Beast is back! It got Rider, Dale, and Chad!"
"Oh boy," I said looking at Kate and Jack.

Author's Note

Kate Rivet
This is part of a franchise taking place on Cresswell campus. There's a minor reference at the end to one of my previous stories, The Toro Incident. I've kinda hit writers block so if anyone has any ideas for future story lines for the Cresswell campus, let me know!
