"Safe Dreams"

"Safe Dreams"

A Poem by Kameron Armitage
"

Early morning weights hold my eyes.
Slowly I close my ears to the birds outside,
Throw my alarm clock across my room,
And shut my eyes once more.
Why does this world continue to bother me?

My dreams have become the one an only sanctuary.
I fall into them with ease and live the heavenly life.
Nightmares help me escape the true horror scene that awaits each morning.
As the sun comes up,
My hope for humanity decreases without doubt.

No longer are we in a hole,
But a trench,
creating an obstacle impossible to overcome.
Each fire is expanded with the gasoline being spilled,
each by the negative floors placed by the spokesmen of this country.

The painful withdrawals of happiness haunt my evenings,
as relentless fears pile on top of each other,
guarding my bedroom door and mocking me.

Each day winds down as I lie in my bed,
another useless fragment in time and space,
I fill my head with artificial thoughts of perfection,
as my eyes descend for another night of
pleasure.
