"That Lonesome Flame"

"That Lonesome Flame"

A Poem by Kameron Armitage

Why are you there,

small flickering flame,

burning ever so steadily atop that candle,

waving slightly, lighting a small portion of this room so dark.

You dance,

you mesmerize,

you continue to burn so strongly.

Who has placed you there,

and left you alone,

in this small dark room?

Their careless actions remain in your lonesome burning.

The wax drips down the long, smooth candle,

holding the wick that keeps you alive.

Its sacrifice is impacting as it continues to withstand the heat,

that is melting it away.

The pool of wax escapes your heat,

and hardens in an abstract pool at the base.

Can you shed some light please?

Shine just a little in this dark corner of my room,

this lonely room is holding me captive.

Please.

I am a pathetic, helpless ball in the corner of this room,

All I'm asking for...

is a little light.
