"This Is My Climax"

"This Is My Climax"

A Poem by Kameron Armitage
"

A poem about a boy witnessing the climax of his own life.

"

Happy family,

Two bedroom apartment,

One son.

He awoke to the first soft sounds of them whispering.

The sound of frustration hinted with the mother's edged voice.

She sounded like she'd been crying.

Why?

The father raises his voice;

The "Alpha Male".

Mother wouldn't have it.

She yells at the father.

"Get out of this home. You have poisoned this house and our son."

He raised his hand and as his brutal club connects with her hot face the crack fills the room.

"I will not be spoken to like this; not in my house."

She collapses to the ground;

Desperation,

agony,

helplessness.

He stands over her,

a towering bully.

She lies on the floor,

awaiting a miracle.

He lets out an evil chuckle,

followed by a cry.

He tells her he's sorry as he wipesher tears and kisses her bruise from last week's incident.

She stands up triumphantly.

"No more. Get out of this house."

The father's shock escapes his eyes.

She had finally had enough.

The little boy stands at his doorway,

eyes wide.

Tears swell into his eyes.

The warm, salty bullets explode on the carpet below.

Flooding at his feet.

Broken family.

Empty apartment.

Devastated son.
