"Extinguish"

"Extinguish"

A Poem by Kameron Armitage

The wick of the dynamite burns steadily
I watch, hands shaking
Is it fear?
Or have I been awaiting the arrival of the violent explosion?
When the forceful blast separates us into the
individuals that we are will I
Crumble or grow stronger?
We all soon realize that we do not welcome or fear the powerful wave.
Rather we focus on the blast itself and
not on the dim fire burning on the wick, slowly eating it.
All we have to do is
extinguish
