Trees Grow With UsA Screenplay by Clara KevieOpening up to someone can be beautiful and painful...BOY is in great pain, it becomes more obvious as he opens up to GIRL. GIRL wears WHITE SNEAKERS and PASTEL colors. Her clothing, shoes in particular, starts out pristine. They get a bit dirtier in each shot until they look more like BOY's WORN IN SHOES. 60 frames per second, surreal feeling. Slightly overexposed. EXT. WALKWAY, GRASS. AFTERNOON. WIDE PAN, ZOOM IN ON DOOR Door opens. Zoom on BOY as he walks out. Ripped jeans, deep in thought, melancholy. He looks around for a moment before leaving. CAMERA SLOW ZOOM OUT As he walks out of frame, GIRL opens door putting her backpack on. Disheveled, sweet, BRIGHT WHITE SHOES. She walks out of frame, anxious. SHOT OVER GIRL'S SHOULDER. HEAR THEM WALKING. CAMERA FOLLOWS THE 2 WALKING. AUDIO SLOWLY FADES IN AS GIRL WALKS FASTER TO CATCH UP WITH BOY. GIRL (inner monologue) I think I should… I don't have anything else to do. I mean, what do I have to loose? (GIRL has caught up with BOY) Hey! BOY Oh, hi... (Awkward pause. Both look down at SHOES and continue walking in silence.) So… how are you? GIRL I'm… I'm good… I've… been going through a lot lately… And you? How are you? BOY (BOY smiles faintly, then speaks dramatically) For sure. I'm alright. A lot's been on my mind lately. GIRL Like what? (Long pause, GIRL instantly regrets probing) BOY (walking slows to a stop, both looking forward) Do you really want to know? (Dramatic pause. GIRL slowly nodes yes. BOY takes big breath and sighs) Okay. BOY quickly looks around, then GRABS GIRL's HAND and starts RUNNING down a different path. GIRL almost trips. GET THE SHOES RUNNING THROUGH DIRT AND A BIT OF MUD. They slow once they reach an alley. BOY goes first. GIRL follows, walking on a line in the ground, and looks at her SHOES to keep balanced. EXT. PARK OR SIMILAR WITH AN IMPRESSIVE WHIMSICAL TREE. EVENING. They come out the other side of the alley. Grass blows. BOY leads GIRL to an old secluded TREE. They sit next to each other, knees to chest, looking at shoes (GIRL'S are DIRTIER like BOY's) Hear wind and breathing. BOY, now clearly in pain, looks up at GIRL. They hold eye contact until boy begins crying. He puts his head in his knees. GIRL is overcome with empathy and fights back tears. GIRL HUGS BOY. GIRL I know it hurts… I'm sorry. Slow fade to black.
