Prepare Me, But I'm Still Blind

Prepare Me, But I'm Still Blind

A Poem by Clara Kevie

You can prepare me all you want for what you say the world is hiding

But honestly, I’m blind to what’s right in front of me.

Justify what you will and confide in me your well-backed conspiracies.

Give me the cold hard truth time and time again so I never have to listen to a lie.

Tell me why the world is wrong and why we’re cruel and why big men have knives

But forget to mention the delicate balance of lies and knives and beauty.

Beauty is pure. Untouched by convention.

Knives are but a dusty piece of matter under which we hide,

Protecting ourselves from the apparent yet invisible foundation of lies

Upon which our society is built.

You say I’m smart, and I know you mean well, but

I’m only smart enough to see the edge of my limited experience with knowledge.

You can prepare me all you want for what you say the world is hiding

But honestly, I’m blind to what’s right in front of me.
