I Never KnewA Poem by kalikafrosti'm sorry, rex, i never knew..I never knew what lay beneath The words that were stopped behind your teeth The poisonous thoughts that ran unchecked The fragile heart that was so easily wrecked I never knew, love You never said You never told me I would've begged To know of your pain To know of your doubts To know your suffering To hear your shouts I never knew what you'd done to yourself Slowly breaking, teasing your health The blades that danced across your skin Painting a canvas at your whim I never knew, love How much you hurt How deep the pain ran Your heart in the dirt The furtive glances The heavy gaze Once of stone Now a heart of clay I never knew of the many shadows They hung above you, behind your eyes Twisted your thoughts and filled you with hate Clogging your brain, muffling your cries I never knew, love Oh how I wish I were wrong To be there with you To help you be strong To be your best friend Your ear and your trust Your shoulder to cry on In our friendship a must I never knew things that I should've known The signs were all there, out in the open I should've seen things, Maybe then I would know That you weren't okay That his un-love caused a blow So deep and so painful That you'd turn to the blade Then put on a fake smile As you went about your day I'm sorry, love I never knew I never knew, love I'm here for you
