A Heart of Glass

I believe this is my first free verse poem! It's not my best but enjoy! :) The most beautiful people are also some of the most fragile...

There once was a girl

She was pretty, yes.

But her most beautiful feature?

Her gorgeous heart of glass.

Everyone was amazed

By her heart of glass.

All would befriend her

To get a closer look

But this unknowing girl

She didn't understand

That all the people wanted

Was a look at her heart of glass.

All her "friends" would ask

To hold her heart of glass

She said of course

Anything for you!

So they lightly grasped

Her heart of glass

What happened next?

It fell, in slow motion

Her lovely heart of glass

Was cracked on the floor

But she was forgiving

For it was just an accident

So she simply put her heart of glass

Away for awhile

Then another person came

And they asked for a favor

"Can I hold your heart of glass?"

You would think she'd learn her lesson

But she gave her heart of glass

Away yet again

Another time she watched

As her heart of glass

Came tumbling to the ground

It happened time and time again

But it was okay!

Cause her heart of glass

Made her feel loved

But as time went by

Her heart of glass

Slowly became more damaged

Until she couldn't bare it any longer

She looked one day

And saw that her beautiful heart of glass

Wasn't so beautiful anymore

"Why was I so foolish?"

Said the girl with the heart of glass.

Sometimes even the prettiest hearts

Are the most fragile... 

Author's Note

You can probably tell as you go that the phrase "heart of glass" is repeated in every stanza. Also this is my first free verse poem so constructive criticism is always great!!
