The Lively Ill

The Lively Ill

I was inspired by The Fault in Our Stars movie to write this.

The Lively Ill

My thoughts gather in the dark sky

As delicate and bright as stars

But none can fathom into constellations

Instead they tend to form scars

There are those days of sorrow

There are those days of despair

But in between are days we wait for

The days we love to care

We’re defined by our illness

Yet we too live to lose our virginities

The cancer may deter us

But we still love our little infinities

You may be in love with me

But love just shouts into the void

We're all doomed you say our labor will turn

To dust as if they were toyed

Don’t worry about me

You have numbered days until you learn

So I don’t want to be your grenade

I want to keep my casualties to a low burn

I understand the concept

That pain demands to be felt

Like fabric against the skin

Always to be unequally dealt

Eventually one of us will be gone

I want the death to be my own

Because I can't see a world without you

Please don't let my cries be shown

The process for our relationship

Was rather slowly unsteady

Once we were in your bed

My love released completely ready

We love to be with each other

We love to live a little longer

We love to laugh without a worry

We love to grow a little stronger

Amongst a vast history of time

Are small indents that hold our story

Humans began and in a moment they’ll end

Inevitably, you’ll lose your glory

Whether we stop tomorrow

Or we live a hundred more

Oblivion is unavoidable

Death stares at humanity’s door

The marks humans leave

Often harm us more than most

There might be a god watching over

And if there is, could it boast?

A few days before your death

You wanted a eulogy that I'll be giving

I let all my feelings go at the pre funeral

But in the real one, it was for the living

If you die, you want to stay

Within everyone’s minds

If I die, I want to die

Without anyone else’s binds

You went to many places. I questioned the topics in the poem often. I learn everyone is important. You could be the hand that save one life of someone who will save our world. My favorite lines written somewhere in time. "If I saved one life. My writing was worthwhile." Death comes to the all of us. Better to dance, sing and celebrate every new day. Tomorrow is not guarantee. Thank you for your always strong and powerful poetry. A excellent poem.
