Love Sickness

Love Sickness

A Poem by Kai-Kai

A Self-Help Poem: Love Sickness

By Kai Silvera

He's just a person

who told you one thing

and meant another.

He’s not a prodigy,

or godlike.

He’s just a guy

who kissed you

with another woman

in mind.

It's true

he made your body swirl

into a fantasy

at the sight of him.

And it's true

you got lost

in the depth

of his pacific ocean eyes.

And in that one minuscule moment,

when the throb in your head

aligned with the pounding of his chest,

I know you felt safe

and inexplicably happy,

like the world just handed you the jackpot.

But he's just a person

who said one thing

and did another

and got back together with his ex.

You walked away when you had to.

When the flirt was directed towards

the woman next to you.

When the tiny white lies seeped

through his teeth in yellow stains

after cigarette breaks.

And he won't tell you why

he doesn't love you

or like you at all.

But perhaps you both knew all along.

It's the different phases of life,

the age gap.

It's the different point of views,

lifestyles.

Perhaps it's because he likes tattoos,

deceiving smiles.

Ones that never tell you

the whole truth.

He can't stand your honesty,

your rawness,

your body,

trembled by his touch.

You seem to be a fragile doll in his mind.

Always there on his terms

when he's feeling optimistic,

when he's feeling lonely.

He’ll never love you.

Get that through your skull.

Past your trembling, fiery heart

Past your aching, volcanic  stomach.

He’ll never love you,

even when you have his smile

tattooed across your eyes.

And his laugh rooted in your every thought.

And right after that electrifying space

created between your heated bodies,

he’ll cleanse himself

and never look back.

Remember this

when he calls.

Because he will,

only to “do the right thing”.

Remember this

when you begin to lose yourself

in his tantalizing eyes.

And when an ounce of hope

trickles back into your vulnerable heart

at the sound of his playful tongue.

Remember,

he’s not a prodigy

or godlike,

he’s just a guy

who kissed you

with another woman

in mind.
