Midnight Abuse

Midnight Abuse

A Poem by Shae

There is a violent monster,

triggered by memory,

that I can only see in the dark.

The monster pushes its palms into my forehead

and drags it’s nails down my face.

It rips out my eyelashes one by one

and replaces my fingernails

with dried blood.

When the monster leaves,

my mind is cloudy.

The inside of my mouth is sore,

and the skin on my lips is bright red.

Except, I am the monster,

created by the evil memory

that I cant shake.

I can drown my insides with acid

and poison my blood,

but the memory will remain.

It will linger in my mind

like a storm waiting to happen.

Occasionally reaching the surface,

leaving a mess that nothing,

and no one,

can clean up.

I reviewed your other story, "I said No" before this, and like I said there, you write very strong things that are very, very emotional and deep. This was deep in the way that there are a lot of people who can identify with this. Hurting themselves to try and feel better, but it never makes it any better. I cannot personally say I have been there, but I know many a friend who has been there, and I think you captured it very, very well. I like it a lot, and I hope you get more readers on this, because it is very powerful, and deserves to be read. Please keep writing, you are amazing!
