We FollowA Poem by kaileigh922We follow The shards of shattered windows scattered along the cold, black paved road ahead Of what is behind us, but too deep within our naivety to pull out and notice That what we follow are forgotten lectures, steam evaporating from the cooling, cooling tea Never To Be tasted by these lips Because we follow shooting stars and “I love you’s” whispered into the wooden heart. Toes curl up, sheets fallen away hours before the dew kissed earth in a fluid glaze. Maybe it was minutes ago, maybe hours, but sleep soon intoxicates memories of Our treasures, the reasons we hold onto, for venturing into the empty hourglass hushing silence, Awakening everything that holds us to this spot in the matted, rubber grass And this time, we forget where we are going and fall still against the world, Backs arched against the afternoon sun Mere shadows in a field of cut strings © 2011 kaileigh922 |
