Lizard Flats

Lizard Flats

A Poem by Lisa Armstrong

Russet sands coat the forest floor,
In a covert at the base of Kolob's dome.
A small corner in nature's vast domain.
Eden's forgotten recollection to men.

A hidden trail marked in iron oxide stain,
Meanders through an arboreal ceiling,
Which opens a crack in nature's window
To the sky's endless stretch.

A boulder rests in paradise,
Beneath the radiant warmth of day.
Providence's seat in the midst of paradise's
Gentle breezes -- a gift to nature's children.

Lizards scamper over the hidden ground,
And sun themselves on their secret stone.
Miniature remainders of a mighty,
Prehistoric past.
