Pocahontas

Pocahontas

A Poem by Kaela Craven

Five years old.
If I could have been anything
I would have been
Pocahontas.

But here I am
And I'm twenty-one years old
And I grew up
Not being a lion
From "The Lion King."

I am not Pocahontas.
I have blond hair and blue eyes.

But just now I was standing in a canyon.
With a river at my back
And the open blue sky
And suddenly the wind picked up
And blew through my long hair
And for a moment

Pocahontas
I was.
