In Her WayA Poem by Kaela CravenAbout a queer girl I met when I was just discovering my attraction to girls wasn't just a fleeting thing.
She picked up no pencil to look that way
She studied no ad in the mall on her way
To the Vietnamese shop at the end of the way
I’m not supposed to feel like that
She’s free under her sweater
A bright color against the cold
The sky is gray and endless
Her eyes argue, warm and bold
It hasn’t started raining yet
But my hands feel like they’ll freeze
I wish I was underneath her shirt
Where I’d feel her body squeeze
I’m not supposed to feel like that
I hear my mother in my head
She sees that I am waking up
And she’s stuffing a pillow on my head
She’s beautiful in that interesting way
