They Made The Fires For You

They Made The Fires For You

A Poem by Kaela Craven
"

I dreamt that Pierre pointed to fire in the hills and said, "they made the fires for me."

"
Where once was vastness
Cold and endless
Came a flash in pitch black darkness
And lit a fire
In pre-life oneness
To bring you to me now.

And when the creatures
Scared and speechless
Found a light in all the blackness
They lit a fire
To cure the soulless
And bring you to me now.

I'd call it hopeless
Destined, dreamless
To find a flame in all my darkness
But came a spark among the heartless
And brought you to me now.

This poem is compelling. The imagery moves one through time, place, and emotion. I particularly like the way each stanza ends. It's relatable and makes me curious about the poet's story hidden in between the lines.
