Finale of Steadiness

Finale of Steadiness

A Poem by Onoma

one can't be sure how much
transfigurement occurs during sleep.
how often a straight line fudges a crooked
line, so: a/b/c can sequentially light up.
three yesterdays ago today--a legless
Daddy-long-legs was pulled across the
floorboards of my head.
in response to the banging vacuum of
wakefulness.
as a bedroom window isolates what will
be uniformities of rain--shower (cut!),
shower (cut!), shower (cut!)...with a finale
of steadiness?

There you go again! Such intriguing imagery, like peanut butter as bait in a mousetrap, I have to stop, check around the corners, scratch my head, decide if I need to deconstruct, read between the lines, or accept at face value... SO,
How about a reference to Dali? Surrealism is the food of dreams, and what better dream than a legless daddy-longlegs? It would be humorous in the same way that an elephant with chicken legs is funny. And in the telling of it, the only thing that makes any sense is "the banging vacuum of wakefulness." As it happens, I've been studying the mysteries and nature of consciousness... how can something as nebulous as a thought, come from nothing more than a glob of cells? Those thoughts, pouring out from nowhere in a steady shower... If the quantum folks are right, and the universe itself is conscious, well, WHAT A FINALE!
