Peeled Away

Peeled Away

A Poem by Onoma

as a serpent sleeps ahead of the departed.
limp under flashes of yellow.
stretched to meet the ground it will cover
throughout its incarnation--without moving.
its blood icily curled up into drifting balls,
trickled over by warm effluxes.
a stone in its mouth, a rose in its stomach.
peeled away.
