Alone

The scorching hot sun beats down on her burning red face.  The field surrounds and engulfs her in its never-endingness.  Trees in the distance promise hope of cool shelter, but seem to get farther away the closer she walks.  The young woman looks up and see a few useless clouds; tiny and sparse.  The sun beats more fiercely with each passing moment.  She reaches for her canteen for any remaining drop of water.  A tiny sip of all the remaining water barely helps to quench her parched, dry throat.  The trees ahead though growing slowly closer become a blur of vision.  Her long blonde hair sticks to her face and back as beats of sweat produce on her forehead.  Just a few more miles... just a few more yards... just a few more steps... She has almost reached the forest when suddenly a great, quick force of cool wind sweeps over her and strengthens her to press on.  The harsh sun is blotched out slowly by the shady trees.  Nearby a stream flows with cool, fresh water!  She falls to her knees under the kind protects of the oak, maple, and pine.  The soft clay soil soothes her aching knees.  Cold water splashes on her face and arms as the drinks with great delight.  Everything comes back into clear focus, finally.  She fills her canteen with the reviving water and slowly walks over and sits down on a large smooth rock to rest.  Looking back on her journey, she now knows she hasn't taken this long weary, yet accomplishing journey alone.  Looking heavenward, she knows exactly Who helped her persevere to the end.  He is very faithful, indeed.
