Leeba with a confused look on her says “why can’t I try out for Duel academy?” to her Father James Stoneburner.

James Stoneburner says “I don’t want you wasting your life on the off chance you go pro”

Leeba countered “But you said I you said I could yesterday.

James said No buts.

Leeba said I’m going for a run. Running and oh so familiar scene she has run this route a thousand times. Thinking of what she should do. It was her dream to be a professional duelist. Dueling is what she loved more than anything else. She already was the best in the neighborhood this small town where everyone knows everyone was now holding her back. It was where her heart was but she needed to get better and there was only one place where she could get the skills needed to get to the next level.

The fact is only a few players a year are lucky and good enough to get sponsored. She also knew that Helpomer was a shoe in to get in duel academy. If he couldn’t do it no one really was good enough to get sponsored in this town. He would ace the written test so that is probley what he is going for. He is a quick learner and learns quickly. Any challenge he openly accepts. He often does duel puzzles. He spends hours on them and once he learns it he never forgets and then implements them in actual gameplay.

Devon Hardwick said Leeba how are you doing?

Devon Hardwick is a handsome 14 year old kid. He would not look out of place in a 1950’s movie. He has curly brown hair with blue eyes. HE has a contagious laugh and a great work effort. He is a mechanical genesis. He has a slight British accent.

What said Leeba coming to a complete stop?

Leeba are you ok said Devon Hardwick?

Yes said Leeba.

You’re not being completely honest are you? You look a little disturbed said Devon.

I am not said Leeba. Kind of confused on what to do next my dad’s not letting me try out for Duel Academy.

I don’t know what I am going to do say Leeba crying.

Devon tried to consul her by saying Duel Monsters isn’t everything.

Leeba went berserk at that comment. It may not be everything but it is what I love I can’t imagine myself doing anything else. My whole life is riding on this weather I shall see Jacob for the next few years. If I can become a pro duelist I know I don’t have to go to duel academy to be a pro duelist but I can’t get any better here. I need to take it up to the next level. So what have you been doing Devon?
Homework, school, and working on every mechanical thing possible said Devon so the usual.

You never change laughed Leeba have you fixed my duel disk.

Yes let me go get it said Devon. A couple minutes later he came back with an old first generation Kiba corp duel disk. Why haven’t you upgraded this I don’t know said Devon?

I’m like you I like classic things and besides why fix what isn’t broken said Leeba. Hey at least I have one thing in common with Yugi we have the same duel disk.

They both laughed at this as Leeba went on her way back home. To receive the news from her mom Sarah Stoneburner that she was allowed to compete. She was ecstatic but trying to calm herself she went upstairs and worked on her deck.

Helpomer coming in latter was just as excited for her as Leeba was. He asked for her to call her Jacob from now on and left.

Chapter 2

The next morning she got up about 2:00 A.M. not able to get any sleep that night. Her Fallen Warriors was an unproven deck and she was worried about how it will work. Her Test scores would be another problem. Her knowledge of Duel Monsters often hampered her in even basic conversations. She had never played competitively and that showed in her knowledge of the game. Her fundamentals were sound and that was what she was going to rely on today.

Her mind wondering as she thought back to a found memory of her father and her playing Duel Monsters. Leeba was much younger at the time. She couldn’t remember how old she was or even when it happened it had just happened. She went first that fateful day and set a monster then throws down a face down.

James Stoneburner her father said you getting sloppy. I summon Beautiful Headhuntress in attack mode. A beautiful Maiden in a blue robe holding up the robe is a red ribbon tied in a bow. She has blue hair that is tied with a bow. She has painted lips on carrying a cleaver. Then I play Bait Doll. You remember how it works don’t you.

Not really said Leeba?

Well this card forces the activation of your trap card. If you can’t activate it it is destroyed and if it’s a spell you put it facedown again. After that I shuffle the card back into my deck. The card was Enchanted Javelin. It could not be activated so it was destroyed. James shuffling bait doll back into the deck quickly. Now my Headhuntress destroys her monster. In a quick burst she ran with her cleaver and destroyed Leeba’s monster. It was Nimble Momonga.

Leeba said Dad you might have destroyed one of my monsters but now I gain 1000 life points. That brings me up to 5000 life points. Now I get to summon two more Nimble Momongas to the field. Looking though her deck to find she had misplaced one of her monsters. I mean I summon one Nimble Momonga.

You misplaced one of your cards didn’t you said James.

No daddy forgot it was in my hand said Leeba

Now on my main phase two I play tribute doll which allows me to tribute my Beautiful Headhuntress for Mikazukinoyaiba. A lightly armored dragon man came onto the field carrying a crescent blade in his hand. I set one card face down and end my turn said James.

Leeba knew she was in trouble that was her dad’s trump card and she only had one card that could beat it. Its 2200 attack points might be scary she thought but I can beat it. She drew her card and said wow. I summon Twin Headed King Rex in attack mode. A huge two headed purple dinosaur took the field. This winged beast was a sight to behold but was no comparison to Mikazukinoyaiba. I play Gift of the Martyr. I can tribute my Nimble Momonga increase my twin headed king rex’s attack points to 2600. The monster grew in size where it dwarfed even the house. Now attack my beast and destroy Mikazukinoyaiba.

Twin Headed King Rex flew into the air and rammed himself into Mikazukinoyaiba. Mikazukinoyaiba flew backwards and quickly left the duel field. As a gust of wind went into James Stoneburner as his life points fell to 3600.

Good job said James. Now I draw my card and play monster reborn on Mikazukinoyaiba.

Leeba fell into shock as all she had down the last turn was for not.

Now attack Mikazukinoyaiba and destroy Twin Headed King Rex. Mikazukinoyaiba Lunged into Twin Headed King Rex causing a deep gouge in its stomach as it fell and left the field. Another strong wind caused Leeba to fall as her life points went down to 4400.

She drew another card as she noticed Dragon Seeker in her hand. I play Monster Reborn.

I activate Call of the Grave said James negating Monster reborn.

No thought Leeba. I set a monster and end my turn said Leeba.

My turn I play Commencement Dance by offering the Curse of Dragon in my hand I can summon Performance of Swords. Another beautiful lady with wild red hair she has 4 arm bands two of them on her upper arm with a piece of green silk attached to one arm band and red on another. She has a bra for a top and cotton pants on the bottom. On her other bands these one around her wrist a pair of blades are attached. She was dancing wildly but in a controlled manner not to cut the silk or her.

James said attack my performance of swords. She danced over to Leeba’s face down and attacked. It didn’t interrupt the dance but looked as it was part of it. As she attacked Giant Germ and it was punctured and oozed a liquid. It caused James minor pain as his life points decreased to 3100.

As Leeba summoned two More Giant Germs in attack mode.

Now Mikazukinoyaiba attack one of the germs. Mikazukinoyaiba lounged at one the germs knocking back Leeba and causing James more pain. Leeba life points went down to 3200 as James’s went down to 2600. I end my turn said James.

My turn dad said Leeba. I tribute my Giant Germ to summon Dragon Seeker in attack mode and you know what that means it effect destroys your Mikazukinoyaiba. Now I attack with my dragon Seeker. A burst of fire went from Dragon Seeker’s hand to destroy Performance of Swords. That brings James life point count down to 2550.

James drew a card and placed it face down and then ended his turn.

I draw and play the card Mystical Space Typhoon on your back row. With a gust of wind James’s facedown was destroyed Call of the Haunted. I summon Nimble Momonga and attack your life point’s directly.

Good game said James. Your skills as a duelist have improved. I have something for you. Pulling out a pewter ring he said here have it.

Thank you said Leeba as she grabbed it out of his hands.

Coming back to reality those where the days.

Helpomer (Jacob) asked what are you doing up at this hour.

Can’t sleep said Leeba. Want to lie with me in your original form again it normally helps me sleep.

I’ll never do that again said Helpomer.

Come on said Leeba.

Never going to happen again said Helpomer (Jacob).

Looking at her father’s old deck he had given her could you at least help each other with our decks.

Fine said Helpomer.

Chapter 3

A wakening the next morning around 7:00 A.M. the next same morning to her alarm she realized that Helpomer was not with her again.

Do you ever sleep said Leeba?

No I try sometimes but no I don’t you look so peaceful not having the normal worries. I envy that not having a care in the world. Just peace.

It’s an annoyance said Leeba. You can’t get all the things you need to get done because of it.

No it is not said Helpomer. It is a beautiful thing.

Ok let’s not talk about this I’ll trade you if I could said Leeba with a yawn. Let’s get over to the stadium before registration closes. Walking over to the stadium was a 20 minute walk so Helpomer knew it was just an excuse. Could you get out of my room so I can get ready demanded Leeba.

Helpomer getting out of Leeba’s room pondered his role in life. He thought about leaving her and what he was going to do with his life. He didn’t like dueling it was just something he did to entertain her. Which she could tell and it bothered her she wanted to have fun together, but she would try too hard and then neither one of us were having a good time.

He being a Homunculi meant that it was in his best interest to love her and he did but he keep getting the feeling that he wanted away and do his own thing. He wanted to find love that wasn’t decided by him by his creation.

The door opened and Leeba in a professional dress came out and asked how do I look?

Great… it’s over I’m tired of our relationship we are over said Helpomer. I am not going to duel academy with you I never want to see you again. As he ran out the door relying on the shock of what he just said to hit her.

Leeba fell down to her knees and started crying it was all she could do. The Homunculi she had loved.

She may never see him again she thought to herself. What should I do thought Leeba should I go chasing after Helpomer or should I go to Duel Academy. Running down the stairs in an effort to maybe find him.

Seeing him run to a side ally she yelled Helpomer please come back I’m sorry. Come back cried Leeba.

Just hoping to find him again she ran to the ally but he was not their he was too fast for her. I don’t need him thought Leeba trying to convince herself. Ok now to go and fulfill your dream. As a flash of a good memory filled her head.

Helpomer this was such a great night said Leeba.

It was nothing any time said Helpomer.

Shaking her head she said not today I can cry tomorrow but today is for me said Leeba.

You’re not going said James.

Dad I’m going I literary have no time said Leeba.

You’re not going and that is final said James.

Leeba just started running she had no time for this. She didn’t look back and made it to the Stadium just in time. She looked back and found that her Dad wasn’t chasing.

A 5 foot 2 inch man in a red jacket came up to her he was bold but looked in his 20’s he was very muscular his body looked as though it had been through hell in back from all the wounds on his body.

Your Leeba Stoneburner aren’t you said the man?

Freaked Leeba said yes. Scarred of what might happen.

I am sorry but you’re not… said the man.

A 35 year old woman with brown eyes and red hair she has a model like physique. She is 5 foot 9 inches tall. Said let’s give her a shot.

But Professor Devons see is a runaway said the man.

More reason to give her a chance said Professor Devons. If you can beat me in a duel you will be part of Duel Academy but if you can’t you have to go home and face the consequences.

Deal said Leeba not even hesitating.

Walking into a doorway they see what a hallway to the front of them. As they reached a small duel field no one was yet here.

Let’s begin said Professor Devins. I’ll start by summoning Corrupted Sword Stalker. A purple Warrior with a huge sword took the field it had a black field around it. It looked menacing and even more ferrous than its counterpart. Now I set one face down and end my turn. It’s a normal monster which attack points are 2000 and defense points are 1600.

I draw now and summon Fallen Warrior Julius. A monster comes out of the ground to. A Zombie in a once luxurious toga that is now barely covering anything. HE has a large tower shield in his hand and a short sword. It is an effect monster with 1800 attack points and 1500 defense points.

Now I play the fallen Empire field spell. A giant crumbling coliseum surrounds them. The floor of this once great stadium is no more. As they look to be hovering above it. This increases my Fallen Warrior Julius attack to 2100. Now attack my Fallen Warrior Julius as he walked over methodically to get to Sword Stalker and it destroys it with one stab. As Professor Devons life points decreased to 3900.

Now I play unstoppable corruption which allows me to summon another corrupted monster when one my corrupted monsters are destroyed by battle. Looking though her deck and now I summon Corrupted Curse of Dragon a yellow dragon descends from the sky. It has a slender body and has red davits on it. Like the other Corrupted monsters it has a black field around it. When this monster is summoned it destroys all field spells on the field.

As the coliseum fell down Julius’s attack points went down to 1800. Now I set one card face down and end my turn.

My turn said Professor Devons. I draw as I tribute my Corrupted Curse of Dragon to summon Corrupted Mikazukinoyaiba in attack mode. She saw her dad’s card but with a black field.

Shaking her head trying to suppress her memories she didn’t notice Professor Devons say attack. In which it destroyed her monster with a quick slash and Leeba’s life points went down to 3400 before she could play her card. As Corrupted Mikazukinoyaiba went into defense mode.
Professor Devons said I think I struck a nerve you miss your dad?
No said Leeba.

I know you could of stopped my attack was your longing for your father that great that you couldn’t play your card?
Shut up said Leeba as she drew a card. I play Return of the Empire which allows me to summon a Fallen Warrior from my hand for the cost of 1000 life points. As her life points went down to 2400 another monster came from out of the grave. I summon Fallen Warrior Otho in attack mode. Then I summon Fallen Warrior Vespasianus but neither of them will be on the field for long as I Synchro summon Fallen Warrior Vitellius in attack mode. Now I attack your Corrupted Mikazukinoyaiba and destroy it. I end my turn.

My turn said Professor Devons now I summon Solemn the father of Alchemy. Now that was it for Leeba she had seen enough and then she saw something a ring. A pewter ring to be exact she yelled Helpomer what you doing with her.

What said Professor Devins?

You know exactly what I am talking about your master commands it said Leeba.

As Helpomer transformed and said I am sick of you treating me like this were equals and you should start treating me like one.

I thought it was over between us laughed Leeba.


Fine I’ll tell you the truth we are here to make sure you don’t get into Duel Academy. He didn’t want to chase you down and the best thing he could do to keep you home was to make you think you were a bad duelist. I had to make it clear I was not going to Duel Academy to make you less likely to want to even try out.

Come on lets finish this duel I have an academy to enter said Leeba.

Your that persistent you win said Professor Devins.

What said Leeba?

You shouldn’t be facing me and doing this well you have proven you are more than good enough to enter Duel Academy.

 

 

 

 

Chapter 4

            Thank you said Leeba.

            Professor Devins said you didn’t bring anything didn’t you.

            No said Leeba nervously.

            Ok you didn’t think this out said Professor Devins?

            I had to run here said Leeba.

            You have to go and talk to your parents said Professor Devins.

            Walking home she was joined by Helpomer. How am I best to handle this thought Helpomer?

            You lied to me said Leeba. Even worse you even tried to sabotage me.

            I’ll tell you the truth it was not my plan I was doing what master commanded.

            Leeba said dad told you to do this.

            Yes said Helpomer.

            They quickly ran home. Dad was carrying a duel disk in on his arm. Dad what are you doing said Leeba.

            I am not going to let you ruin your life said James.

            Dad we have been over this said Leeba.

            If you want to go and become a pro duelist you will have to go through me said James.

            Fine dad we haven’t played in a while anyways said Leeba.

            I’ll go first said James. I summon Solemn the ultimate alchemist in attack mode. An old man in a white robe came onto the field. Solemn the ultimate alchemist has 1400 attack points. I play the ring of Solemn.

            You stole my deck said Helpomer.

            Shut up you I own you. You’re lucky I let you date my daughter said James. I activate the ring of Solemn to special summon a fiend from my hand. Now I summon bound fiend to my field. A blank card entered the field. The card had no presence on the duel field. This monster has 1500 attack points. I end my turn with a face down.

            Wow you misplayed Leeba laughed. I draw and now play Wraith of the Beast this means by discarding any divine beast I can destroy all spell and traps or all face up monsters. So let me think said Leeba. I’ll get rid of your spell and trap cards. Now I play Fallen Warrior Vespasianus in attack mode. I’ll just go ahead and attack your Solemn the ultimate alchemist. Now you activate your Bound Fiend’s effect making me destroy it. Now your life points will go down to 3500 dad. This plan of your is not going to work. I know that deck better than you.

            My draw I play…said James.

            Let me guess the rod of mosses said Leeba.

            I play the rod of mosses and equip it to Solemn the ultimate alchemist. Now I use it effect to…

            Draw two cards said Leeba.

            I play a face down monster and end my turn said James.

            Ok I draw and play the card war to destroy your face down monster. I play Fallen Warrior Julius and Xyz summon Fallen Warrior Tiberius. A weaker looking zombie crawled out of the grave he was not a valiant warrior. His very sight was repulsive and offensive. I use his effect to special summon Fallen Warrior Vespasianus in attack mode and now I finish this.

            Going up stairs she grabbed her bags and walked out of her parent’s house for the last time. She would never be able to go back home. Helpomer followed her as Sarah came running to Leeba. Leeba looked back just in time to see her mother. Mom said Leeba almost to herself.

            They just went and hugged each other. Leeba tried to stifle her tears as she asked if she would let her go. We walked to the stadium and saw professor Devins.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chapter 5

            Hey professor said Leeba.

            Your late said Professor Devins!

            Sorry had to finish some family matters said Leeba.

            Sigh thought Professor Devins. Get into my car said Professor Devins. They walked up to a hoover car that was about 20 years out of date and looked like it. It was not a classic by any stretch of the imagination but it ran. Leeba took the front seat and Helpomer took the back.

            So tell me about yourself said Leeba.

            What do you mean asked Leeba?

            We have two couple hour drive ahead of ourselves said Professor Devins.

            Well where do I begin said Leeba. I am an advent Messianic Jew.

            How your father taking that said Professor Devins?

            Not well my family is not very happy with my calling in life or my choice to except Jesus Christ as my personal savior. We fought a lot even more in the last year. It has gotten to the point where we us fighting about it. It has gotten to the point where our arguments gotten over where we stopped fighting over what we thought was best for each other and started getting to a point where we just argue to argue said Leeba.

            I bet it is hard for your mother said Professor Devins?

            Yes it was especially at first. She has the same outward opinions as dad. She over time saw what I was talking about. She understands but still is completely neutral in are arguments. I think she is afraid if she had an opinion other than his opinion he will leave her said Leeba.

            What makes you think that said Professor Devins intrigued?

            Well first off mom had abandoned everything she thought in public. She on the outside a perfect Orthodox Jew if you talk to her privately out of earshot from dad. Her beliefs are Reform instead of her Orthodox. After my Bat Mitzvah…

            You just said your dad is completely Orthodox and your mother is afraid to state her opinion how did you get a Bat Mitzvah?

            Let’s just say my mom can be very suggestive. She want this for me and wasn’t going to take no for an answer. After my Bar Mitzvah was a great time for me I didn’t have to hide the fact I was a Christian.

            What that was something you hide before said Professor Devins?

            Yes before I was 12 my dad was in complete control over all my religious designs. It is his right to try and teach me about his religion. The thing is that even that role he overstepped his bounds. I once made the mistake of bringing my Bible home with me. My dad found it in my backpack. He found it and proceed to rip out and destroy the New Testament and handed it back to me.

            How old where you when you where you when you were converted said Professor Devins.

            I was 9 is when I started. It was by Agatha Burrows that I was brought to Christ. She is 2 months older than me. She thought me much about Jesus. She was a devote Catholic and quickly became my best friend. When I was saved when I was 10 that is when our relationship went south.  We starting arguing about theology and shortly it staring getting to personal attacks on each other. It was the end of a beautiful friendship.

            What are you planning on doing at Duel Academy said Professor Devins?

            I want to be a professional duelist. That is the main and only reason I am sitting in this car said Leeba.

              Helpomer you been quiet this whole trip said Leeba.

            Never got anything to say Leeba said Helpomer. Looking through cards to make a new deck all the new cards since he last made his last deck he never saw many cards that he was seeing.

            Lost my deck so trying again to make a new deck said Helpomer.

            Yes never got my deck back and it has lost its luster since I have played it so much said Helpomer.

            Can you help me said Professor Devins?

            Well I need you to check out a dormitory. It is the Slifer red girl’s dorm and they all are not acting their age. They have been acting weird. They have a complete repulsion of guys. All of them have turned down any promotions. We are here said Professor Devins.

A huge cruise liner was in front of them. They unpacked their bags it was now night and they were exhausted.
