Daddy Gone

Daddy Gone

A Poem by James W Wilson Jr

A boy awakes suddenly in the middle of the night

Terror in his eyes, so full of fright

Screams out these words, "dad leave her alone"

Hears a voice from his mom saying, daddy gone

He wakes in the morning and gets out of bed

Dresses for school, puts that hat on his head

Has no memory of the nightmare he had

But he thinks all day about why he is sad

He goes to school and sits in class

Looks at the clock hoping time will pass

Goes to lunch and eats all alone

Sitting there thinking that his daddy gone

When daddy was here he didn't have time

Most of the time he seem out of his mind

Beat my mom and he beat me too

Destroyed every good thing we ever knew

I needed him to be there for me

To help me be all that I could be

To teach me how to be a man

My daddy gone, I don't understand

Mom why did daddy leave

It's still very hard for me to believe

Came home one day, and felt so alone

That day I knew my daddy was gone

This scene happens in our world far too often. I feel how preplexed the child must have been and how relieved all at once. The "boy's" voice rings out clearly through your words. Very nicely written!
