The Result of Giving Your Heart Away

The Result of Giving Your Heart Away

A Poem by J.V. Stanley
"

I love a man who loves me too, but not enough to keep me.

"
Your eyes-
how they look straight into my heart.
My breath catches at the sight of you
and you fill my soul with the warmth of the dawning sun.
Your voice - the serenade of its tone
drowns the worries that try to snare me throughout the day
and the very thought of you
rushes like a burst of wind within my soul.
Oh, how I love you.

Yet here you are,
you take it all away
and give it to someone else, yet I stay.
Giving faith and hope a chance that perhaps someday-
someway
it'll lead back into a time and place where
we'll find each other again.
Traveling down the same road,
our feet beating down the path
with the sound of the dirt slipping underfoot
as we try and catch up.
But now it is broken, shattered, full of bereavement
and regret...

My heart
is not one that is subtle-
not a gentle breeze but a brewing storm.
When I love, it is with all the intensity of that storm.
When I dream-I do so with an unfathomable longing
for something eternally intangible, yet something I can hold onto.
The thought of you envelops the entirety of my being
leaving me gasping with an ache so deep
one could never dive so far to reach its center.
My God how I love you.

Yet here you are,
you take it all away
and you give it to another, and yet I remain.
You insist that you love me, that i really matter.
The importance of our love is weathered,
dependent upon mood, insight, and whether or not we'll listen.
But we cannot listen to words unspoken
they're simply whispers in the mind
and mine is not strong enough to catch them,
I'm left feeling around in darkness, searching
though, I feel them in my gut, wrenching, aching, as
I have no other choice than to say goodbye.

Will you try to catch me as I try to run away?

*smiles* The last phrase kept me stuck for a while because how related it is with my situation. I don't know about you, but the promise of someone who wouldn't let me go was just a solid beautiful lies, because to me, every time something caught up and I'm badly hurt, that very same person will never be there for me, I ended up have to patch and calm myself all alone, anyway, this poem was great, I wonder why this masterpiece doesn't even have that much of reviews, shame on you readers...

Reads in lyrical verse...I liked the hook...and the change in verbal tone from the first and third stanza...gives the add feel in this write...speaks much and you just consume the read for what the words are for...and the last line give that finale excerpt...puts it in perspective...yet the rest puts this in motion...

This is sooo beautiful!! I felt like you were writing it just for me, how it feels to love someone so much it hurts, yet have that love thrown away leaving an aching pain

i like the way that you write. my reasoning you kind of have this point of view writing. your view vs the view of the subject yet still telling a very fleshed out well thought out story. yes another one of your writes that i enjoyed.

loved...not a gentle breeze but a brewing storm.
Thankyou you captured the lack of reciprocation well, I'm so glad that you said goodbye...Maybe now he will realise what he had, and if he doesn't it will be his or her loss! p.s. sorry..am not presuming the poem is about you I'm talking to whoever this poem is reality for.
