A satirical poem, written as a stream of consciousness mirroring the typical mindset of the Instagram and social media hypnotized youth of our century.

Saturday morning! At home. jeez, I am sooo bored. And no plans for today either. Sigh.
Oh almost forgot! I have to check my instagram for any updates.

I'll definitely have to go through their profiles first though, cuz they may not be decent.

Hmm, lets see."fashionforthesoul". Oooh a clothing line. wants to follow me? wow, they must think my taste in fashion is amazing. I always knew I had a certain flair for picking the right outfits.

Lets see. This bloke seems a wee bit dodgy. Wayyyy too many #I'msowasted selfies. His eyes are completely red in this one. He must have gotten hammered at his sister's wedding!
Perhaps I'll accept him. He seems to have such a fun life "#yolo #youngwildnfree"
Although he does seem like a bit of a stalker. But maybe he's the nice kind of stalker...who''ll 'like' all my pictures (I could always use a few more likes). What if he leaves an inappropriate comment...like "damn girl you so #sexy #fine, wanna kik?". Then what do i do. It would be such a disaster!!! OMG- but that could possibly get me more likes!! Maybe even more than the #summer #bikini selfie! and besides, a little drama never hurt anyone, did it?

Sigh. I wish I had such a perfect relationship. My exes were always insufferable.
I am so proud of myself- living the single life right now! And loving it!!!

Author's Note

It covers the Shakespearean theme of appearance vs reality using a teenage girl's stream of consciousness...and therefore suggests that in this modern age with all this modern technology, society has actually regressed to the attitudes of the Elizabethan era where we are judged on appearance alone.
It also encompasses several other themes such as the impact of social media on teenagers and their self esteem, the wastage of time on the internet, the evolving use of the English language due to social media sites and several other themes. I would really appreciate any feedback and your own interpretations. It's one of my first poems, so any constructive criticism would be highly appreciated #thankssomuch #feedback :)
