Act I: The Unbirth

Act I: The Unbirth

A Poem by Justly Poetic
"

This is the first part of my epic poem "The King's Folly". More parts to follow.

"
High above the mountain tops, t'was a castle in the sky.
It hid itself behind the clouds to turn away our eyes.
The spires were impending, the walls were made of steel.
No mere earth-bound mortal could know just how to feel.
Locked deep within the towers, wizards worked with haste.
For being behind schedule, the King had great distaste.
The bearded men worked in silence as they sought the maiden's cure.
The blood of the royal daughter had been cursed impure.

Racing through the nights, her hour did draw nigh.
Should the wizards fail, they'd be the next to die.
Finally completed, the men triumphed their fate.
Vial in their hands, they raced up towards the gate.
The city gathered 'round as they awaited news.
The hope of resurrection assailed away their blues.
As the drops of blue trickled down her lips,
everybody watched as her life began to slip.

Though the wizards did their job, it seemed they were too late.
The King bore down upon them, driven by his hate.
He made examples of them in the middle of the street.
He refused to show off any sign of his own defeat.
But when holed up in his chambers, he poured over ancient texts.
Perhaps there was a ritual created by these sects.
He came upon an evil spell that promised power great.
His conscience whispered protests, but he was blinded by his state.

As the words were spoken, they bled right off the page.
With a final offering, the demon took the stage.
Life was breathed back in the lungs of his dear departed.
Alas the King's own life had quickly been discarded.
The ancient demon from the spell quickly did take host.
It seemed the King had risen, this time as a ghost.
His body twisted sharply, something abhorrent did invade.
It would make this wretched kingdom serve his crime in spades.

It broke right through the window and howled into the sky.
The image burned so deeply into the maiden's eyes.
She could not stand the fate that that man had brought them all.
She threw herself from on high and simply watched the fall.
