Waiting Upon God

Waiting Upon God

A Poem by Doug Blair

Waiting Upon God

And the world had waited

The string of evil had stretched on

And all those trusted ways and means

Deeply disappointed

One people who thought their hold

On the Divine something unique

Seemed to have hurt the most.

And their hallowed books

Spoke of peace, freedom, prosperity

Contentment and justice

While God obviously was busy elsewhere.

But an angel

A sweet and faithful maid

A young tradesman with family dreams

A government edict

A delicate trek down cobbled roads

A bustling City of David

And the humblest of  resting places

For a Nativity.

The waiting was over

And a breathtaking starlit night

Announced the sure and

Relentless purposes of God.

He too had waited

For just the right mix of Providence.

And a cradle held a King.

I really like your use of religious symbolism - it's something I aspire to do as a writer. This is so optimistic about the world too! Great work!
