Rainy Days

Rainy Days

A Poem by justarandomguy
"

one of my friends has had their heart stolen...again, and young love is quite nostalgic to witness even though we're the same age group. Now I feel old...

"
I never asked, I never spoke,
I already knew before you wrote.
A quiet word from someone's hand,
Enough to break what I had planned
|
You saw me only as a friend,
And in that truth, my hopes would bend.
So I lost myself in busy days,
In crowded hours, with familiar haze.
|
But still, when evening settles in,
Your memory always seems to win.
It sneaks between the tasks I do,
And every road still leads to you.
|
I think of that one rainy day,
We shared an umbrella, made our way.
Your laughter soft, your shoulder warm,
In that small space, we kept the storm.
|
You fell asleep against my side,
A moment where the world felt right.
I held my breath and dared to dream,
That maybe I'd meant more to you
|
But now, the rain returns once more,
And I see you as you were before.
This time, with someone else beside,
Another there to match your stride.
|
I stand apart, just watching now,
No words to speak, no need to bow.
The ache’s familiar, soft and slow,
A quiet grief I’ve come to know.
|
I walk away, resigned, aware--
The past was ours, but never fair.
That umbrella, that fleeting chance,
Just memories in faded dance.

I uh, still don't know how to make the em dash not change. Imagine the double hyphen as an em dash.
