The Struggle

The Struggle

A Poem by Joshie MacCasim

This go out to the college kids on that roman noodle diet

the single mom who starving, working two jobs to go to college

To the dad ain't working with a family to feed

to all the people who have these meager jobs but don't have cash for all their needs

welcome to the struggle where life ain't perfect

and it sure ain't no joke and we don't view nothing as worth it

but there's one thing that's certain and that's what I call reality

that ain't nothing free, and no one cares until there are fatalities

and life ain't set up for all of us to make it

so the ones who have no souls just take it and the rest of us just suffer

and grinding to the end because these people ain't our friends

and owning a home aint gonna happen, neither is a car or a trailer

we can't afford inhalers but the rich seem to survive with tailors

but before we all go to sleep we sell ourselves lies

that we will survive and become a part of the 1 percent

and at the end of the day the struggle will be over and we won't be living cent to cent.

And all we can do is repent and ask where did we go wrong

where decisions between food and lights are being made

where rich people throw away food and have maids.

and some of us in the struggle don't even have roofs to store our one pair of boots it took four months to buy

and then we cry, cry cause we can't change it

stuck with then inevitable , a caste so we blame it

marked with a scarlet letter we feel stuck on the fence

a minority but a majority of us live on the outskirts of humanity

and they wont lend a hand to me?

the struggle so fierce make you lose all your sanity

because your blinded as a child and then you meet humanity

the most inhumane word Ironically

but the struggle just grows welcoming new every second

so I hope those new to the struggle grow up and get the message.
