Ground Zero.A Poem by just_teague(new york, new york.) you are here in whole or I will eat you alive.brave in a New world and I stopped-- drawn to graves, tripping across bitter stones.
felt lonely, the ache of a missing piece drawn here because perhaps like me, the graveyard seemed out of place: hallowed ground in hollow city.
and in the cathedral I pulled my it from under my shirt venetian glass with gold, caught on slim silver, the hanging heart.
but to mark you as mine the pomegranate. rebirth. your dull copper chain. so I say “you can always redefine yourself. we will start over.” I whisper “you will never leave” into lungs and heart and brain.
now all I see is red, small red fruit hanging to tempt me. I want to steal with my mouth and swallow it before I am noticed.
under your shirt, in knots, askew. smart move, curtis. I am already imagining how the stone would feel, cool between my lips and round and perfect I nip at it but can never will myself to break the chain.
