My Sad Heart Today

just some thughts of a sad heart

I woke up at the crack of dawn

strectching with a big yawn

but, i feel something is very wrong.

This sadness in my heart doesn't belong

My heart beats but not very well

as these feelings I cannot dispel

what caused my heart to become this way?

I know, it is being alone on this day

it is the heartbreak of my Beth dying

leaving me devestated and crying

the first true love of my young life

knowing we'd never be husband and wife

I will grieve for her until my end

I will again, see my first love and best friend

we will live up in Heaven for eternity

and our love will forever be for all to see

I still love you Beth, so very much!!!!

Author's Note

Beth died the day after Thanksgiving in 1970. she was suffering from inoperable ovarian cancer. I met her due to her cousin andgreat friend to both of us. Olivia told me Beth had never had a boyfriend, never been kissed, never ona date. So, Liv asked me to show Beth around. Little did Beth and I ould come to fall deeplyin love.

This is such a tragic poem, and the author's note makes it even sadder. I've never lost a 'significant other' before, but I can imagine the pain. It must be hard, but we just have to move on. Sadly, life doesn't not stop to wipe our tears. Thanks for sharing this piece.

Beth died in my arms, we shared so a last kiss. William at age 21, never been in love until I met her, I devastated. It has been nearly 46 years and my for her is still strong. Could be why I was never in love again. Yes, I married twice after Beth and have 3 daughters and a son, but could never feel that emotion.
