Confessions of a DrunkA Poem by Lauren EmmonsDisclaimer: I am not the drunk.
In the midst of the bar scene,
she fumbles for her keys. Hands shaking “I’m fine,” She drones, when really, she is unstable. She leaves with a shaky body, the cold bites her nose, her breath reeks of vodka and sadness and misery. The music drowns out her thoughts, or, what little thoughts she has left. Her mind is currently a graveyard, and her body a coal mine. Drunk and alone, she falls to her knees, lays her shaky hands in one another and chants: “Lord, have mercy on me, for a drunk holds no lies. I have sinned tonight, and hurt the flies. I have become what I said I would never become, I have written my last confession: I will give you my body, and my soul to you, oh Lord, in return for a stable life.” But again, the bar will find her, back within its’ grasp. It’s serenity and oasis shall hold her close again. © 2013 Lauren Emmons |
