Snow in the Shoe Box ParkA Poem by Juni ParksSleigh bells ring are you listening in the lane snow is glistening WinterWonderland
He tugged a coat sleeve into an arm
His eyes closed And he sniffed the sleeve: footsteps, an angry pace, crossed lips, bitter and tart He breathed the harsh air And he stepped into the dry snow On a wandering lane in a shoe box park A snowflake passed in front of him He admired as it slowed and twirled It made a jolly turn, and a merry twist, Then seemed glad to be on its way Inside his coat, he felt cozy, even comfy, All tucked in and safe A whip of wind snapped the air And startled the spotless snow He nudged the lapels out And tucked them under his slender chin It fussed against the quarrelsome wool And made him shake away some tranquil flakes lulling in his hair He sniffed the lapels: a favored scent, musky and cool, and mild, And a friendly breeze among the Autumn leaves His shoes alerted his steps, And he stopped and gazed into the dimly lit dark And, then, he turned, And returned to the shoe box park © 2014 Juni Parks |
