The Mad Musing of a Jackass!
The Waiting Game
Again as Jack mosied out of the barn, he saw a black stallion galloping off from in front of the house of the Princess. A young man was sitting atop the horse, that Jack assumed was some sort of messenger.
As his gaze turned back to where the Princess was standing he noticed she wasn't exactly smiling. Under his breath he quietly said, “ Uh oh, this is not good news.”
He watched as her facial expressions changed with every passing minute. Soon her happy face grew sad, and from his vantage point he could swear he saw tears coming from her eyes. Jack stood silently watching his owner, and debated on whether he should walk up to her.
Hannah walked out of the barn, and sauntered over to where Jack was standing. She looked at his eyes and saw a look of concern come over his face. Hannah then inquired softly by saying “ Top of the morning Jack..... Is everything alright?”
All Jack said was “ Shhhh, wait for it, she's ready to explode!”
“ What...... who..... why?” was all Hannah could stammer out, as her head turned toward where the Princess was standing. Her arm dropped to her side, as what looked like a piece of paper floated to the ground.
Katie who had been sleeping soundly in the chair, meowed up to the Princess. She slowly picked up the cat, and sat down. The Princess began to stroke the fur of her cat. At this moment Jack and Hannah both walked up to the Princess, neighing and braying hello.
“ I'm alright Jack, don't worry I am not about to fall back into the old habit of eating junk food again. Yes the message was from the Prince, and yes he once again cannot be home for the holidays. You thought I would blow up again Jack, but I'm getting used to being considered 2nd place to his Royal Duties. He knows where I will be when he can spare the time from fighting against the dragon!
Billy came up, and asked Jack & Hannah “What's up, is there anything wrong?”
“ Oh Yeah..... and not yet. The Princess got a message from the Prince that states he is sorry, but he isn't coming home just yet. Hannah has never seen the Princess explode in anger, but you have Billy! It's only a matter of time before her frustration shines through this time. She claims she wont revert back to engorging herself with junk food, but you know Billy. So she is just stewing over the news, just give it time and wholly hell will break loose.”
Billy asked “ How long do you think it will take Jack? Should we stay clear of her for awhile, or stay close and distract her? I could go into the Royal Gardens, and forage on some of the new plants!”
“Hmmmm” Jack pondered this distraction scenario that Billy proposed. It would keep her busy, but only for a short while. Hannah had in the meantime walked over closer to the Princess, and nuzzled her face. The Princess slowly looked up from Katie, and began to talk quietly to the horse.
“Ah, you understand don't you Hannah! Men, or in your case males are all the same. A bunch of jackasses - no offense to you Jack” she finally spoke a little louder. Jack shook his head up and down, cause he knew she was just using it as a human euphemism- not against him personally.
Then out of the blue she said something I had never expected her to say “ You know Hannah, if he wants you back, well, he'll have to come himself! I'll ride you at least once a day, why maybe even twice some days. Of course, Jack can come along pending the weather outlook. Why don't you and the boys go back to the barn for some breakfast. And I'll go get myself some, then get my riding clothes on and get you some nice exercise in. I will take you for a nice stroll into the forest. It will do me good and get my mind off this last letter that he sent.”
Billy
was shocked by this, as he had never seen the Princess act in this
manner. He looked up at Jack and replied “ Wow, she's taking this
better than I thought she'd ever done. What should I do while you
guys are gone. And don't say it Jack, because I know what you are
thinking " STAY OUT OF THE ROYAL GARDENS!”
Jack grinned down at Billy as he thought to himself ' That's right its exactly what I was thinking.'
After he stopped grinning, he began laughing then said “ Well I am sure you could find some weeds along the roadside to clean up. Or perhaps you can wander in the meadow for some tasty dandelions...... you do like them don't you? It would make your meat nice and sweet if the Princess caught you in the Royal Gardens. You know she has threatened to cut you up before, and well maybe she means it this time!”
Billy shook his head in a 'yes' motion. Then went to wander about the roadside to see what kind of plants he could find. Jack walked into the barn, where he found Hannah had already begun eating oats. He on the other hand preferred the hay that she always bought for him and Billy. She may have to purchase more, now that she had decided to keep Hannah around. Jack thought it was very sneaky of the Princess to keep Hannah, and force the Prince to show up if he wanted this beautiful horse back!
He began munching on the bale of hay that was before him. Then while he was eating, Jack noticed Hannah stop and go out to the water trough to get a drink. He went back to happily munching down on the bale, moving from one side to the other until his back was facing the barn's entrance. Jack never saw Hannah come back into the barn, but he could feel her subtle rubbing up next to him.
She sweetly asked “ Could I have some of this sweet California hay?”
Her touching him sent shivers up his spine, causing him to stutter out “ yyyess, sssure hhhannah.”
She grinned while beginning to eat some of the delicious hay. Soon the Princess arrived in the barn. She grabbed the brush and began going over Hannah's coat. It had been ages since she had done this, and she looked over at Jack who seemed put off by her actions.
The Princess replied heartily “ Don't worry Jack, when we come back I'll do your coat too. That is after our adventure to show this filly our beautiful forest!”
After hearing this Jack brayed loudly, as if saying “ Now this is more like it, Oh how I missed being treated like a Royal A*s!”
While Jack was strutting around, the Princess was putting the saddle on Hannah, then mounting the filly for the ride. She looked back at Jack, and replied “ Come on and quit daydreaming already.”
They all trotted off slowly in the way to the forest, happy as can be. © 2011 Ice QueenJenAuthor's Note
